OK, English is my second language and I'm suck with words. So it's better for me to say thing short. In the excitement of making the scales for my own future Forum knife, I wasn't thinking clearly so I used Jeff's Izula ant trademark on my scale. For that I'm sorry and I won't ever do that again. I join this forum because I'm a knife nut and because people in this forum care about this hobby and respect to each other, especially Jeff, if IRRC he once told us that the reason he did not put the hole on his knife not because the legal issue but because he recognized some one's works (Syderco) and have a respect for it. When I read that statement, It's come to me clearly this is the man that truly earned my respect.
So this is what comes down:
Did I want to put the ant on the scale from the beginning? Yes.
Did I ask Jeff permission? No
Did Jeff tell me not to do it? Not yet.
Even though that I have not heard anything from Jeff, it still means that it's not OK for me. I could just write to Jeff to apology but I think the action speaks louder than words. So I decide to post this to say sorry. There will be no more ant on my scales from now on.
I'm truly sorry Jeff.

Don't beat yourself up. Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery and I'm sure Jeff understands that. By the way, you do better with your "second language" than a lot of people whose only language is English.

Thank you my friend. I just want to make it clear that I meant no harm and respected everyone here.

:thumbup: nicely said. Totally agree with tango alfa sierra. The design you are working on for the izula scales looks great!

If you're making them for yourself and friends, and giving a few away here I don't think it's a problem...if you start selling them regularly there may be some friction.

Then again I don't speak for Jeff, Mike or ESEE in any way obviously:D

If you don't mind me asking...What is your first language?

If I had to guess....middle eastern influence..Arabic, Persian Farsi?

DH1 loving the avatar.. way back in the day..!!! those dudes are what like 70 now?? and still slamming..

Sharp you speak better english then Jeff so I wouldn't worry about that:D

very notable of you to acknowledge the possible issues this may cause.. either way you do awesome work regardless, with or without the izula.. besides, wouldn't that be a Perubian trademark anyhow.:D

Legally, I don't think there is a problem as long as you don't sell them or try to profit in any way from the Izula emblem. As a professional courtesy if you were to start distributing these, It would be nice to do them through Esee or with their blessing.

While I appreciate the apology I'm not even sure why it is necessary???? I haven't said anything about anyone using the logo on their scales?????

If I could CNC Ethan Becker's head onto my BK-2, I'd just do it and then deal with the backlash. :p :D

Seriously, I thought the ants were just a tribute to the Izula design on some personal knives. You can put whatever you want to on your personal knife.

I saw the images of those scales, and honestly, they looked quite good.
Maybe he could manufacture them for you, and you could offer them as a custom dress up option for the Izula II's? ;)

Well, he said he'd ask you about the trademarked stuff (ESEE-Logo, Skull) and then he realized that with the ant, he already had used trademarked stuff without asking.

I think it is no problem at all, when he does it for his own knife, but the moment he starts selling this sweet design there is (at least in theory) a legal issue.

I'm sure Jeff and Sh@rp will find a good solution for that one.

I'm not sure there is a "solution" to be found . No harm done. No problem.

I'm so sorry for the late respond guys/gals. I was busy working yesterday...

Very good of you to do this. Way to go!
Thank for your kind words. Really appreciated.

No, not at all. I'm from Asia. Vietnamese is my first language.

Thanks, the more I speak, the worse my English will come appearance :o. I was thinking the same until I have hundreds of email wanting the buy the scales which exceeds my expectation thus, leading to the next question about a logo being used...

I wish it is that simple. But for some people it is not OK for some one else to use their picture without permission and this is Jeff's trade mark.

It's so good to hear it from yourself Jeff. It's true that you never said anything to me and I haven't asked you permission. So clearly I have no right to use your logo. I believe if I asked you first you would say OK, but I made a mistake. Therefore, I'm so sorry.

Nice joke, my friend, glad to hear from you! Like I said, it started me worry when I have many many email coming in wanted to buy the scales. Below is one example.

Hey Sharp, can You PM me a cost on those onyx looking ones... They're SHARP!
:D:D:D;)

Sharp, way to be a stand up guy
Thanks for kind words.

Thanks, my friend. Well said:thumbup:

Glad to hear that from you. If I'm going to sell these I won't mind to pay loyalty fee for your logo. I hope that's OK with you.

Mike Beckett just emailed me and said you contacted him about using the Izula logo on a commercial project. Please understand that Mike, Katie and Tony are mods on the forum. Any business decisions need to come directly to Mike Perrin or myself. Now I'm beginning to understand the reason for the thread. Since I was not privy to the exchange between you and Mike Beckett I did not realy understand what you were even talking about. Please email me direct jeff@eseeknives.com

Yeah, you should apologize and send everyone here custom grips.

Or just me....;)

I'm going to close this thread. I apologize for being confused about what was going on but now that I know, it's something that Sh@rp and I need to work out with emails. I do appreciate Sh@rp coming forward like he did but I just simply didn't know what all of this was about. Sh@rp email me jeff@eseeknives.com when you have time.

best regards,
