My ATCF...

This is my last knife (famous last words I know)...a Terzuola ATCF with a bead blasted blade and "canvas" micarta scales. (the scans don't really show it, but the scales have a greenish color...very understated) I picked it up at the NYC custom knife show in March.

Like every good knife, this one has a story. It was not supposed to be my knife.

I wandered into Paragon Sports last year, literally the only place in Manhattan to buy custom knives. I fell in love with a Terzuola ATCF in bronze titanium (no bolsters) with ebony scales and a boron coated black blade. I went back the next day to buy it but it had been sold.

So I called Bob and placed an order for a nearly identical knife. We painstakingly went over every detail of the knife to be...screw finishes, engraving color, etc. This was in November of last year. He told me he was pretty backed up but could make the knife for delivery at the show in March. Mine was the one of the last, if not the last, custom orders he took for 2001.

So I waited patiently for 4 months. In March I went to the show with cash in pocket to pick up my much anticipated knife, custom made to my exacting specs.

I met Bob (a very nice fellow) and he presented the knife. I was completely underwhelmed. It was exactly what I had ordered, but so much time had passed, picking it up was somehow anticlimactic. I paid for it nonetheless, and continued wandering the show.

Just as I was about to leave, I spied a different ATCF at another dealer's table. This one spoke to me. I didn't buy it on the spot however, thinking the one I'd ordered would grow on me.

But sure enough, the next day, after agonizing over the situation overnight, I returned to the show and bought the second ATCF.

I was now the proud owner of 2 variations on a theme, neither of which I <i>needed</i>, and only one of which I loved.

A third visit to the show the following day found me selling the first knife, and walking away with the knife that was truly meant for me.<p>Here she is...<p>Rob<p><center> <img src="http://www.minutemachines.com/rkny/atcf1.jpg"><p> <img src="http://www.minutemachines.com/rkny/atcf2.jpg"><p><img src="http://www.minutemachines.com/rkny/atcf3.jpg"><p><img src="http://www.minutemachines.com/rkny/atcf4.jpg"><p><img src="http://www.minutemachines.com/rkny/atcf5.jpg"><p></center>

Rob, that knife looks beautiful. You have got to love Bob T's work. The only ATCF? Who are you kidding:D I bought a Titanium handled model, and told myself just one. Now, I have a deaert ironwood model w/bolsters, the all ti model, and a G10 with bolsters, and very soon a an African Blackwood scales w/ ti bolsters. They are addicting:D

I must say, that is one CLEAN knife!! The grinds are well defined and perfectly executed, the blade finish is PEFECT. You can see in the excellent pictures, there is MUCH attention paid to every small detail. Digital cameras reveal things you don't see with the naked eye ;) I'll be checking out Bob's table at the Blade Show. I've always wanted one of his knives. NICE KNIFE!!!!
