Sorry about the pun :)

I had an amazing day today. I won the Busse ganzaa and got a free small fixed blade. I recieved a blind horse knives scandi december special and I recieved my first GEK. I had been waiting for this guy over a month and was very happy to recieve it. It was in customs for a while but it finally made it here

Ill start off with some pics then ill follow with my initial impressions:

When I first opened the package I was in awe with the fit and finish of this blade. It was perfct. No gaps, all smooth. The jimping and color of the bone is beautiful. Perfectly centered. It opens and closes very well with good "walk" and "talk" to me. Im new to slip joints but I really like the feel of this guy.

I thought everything was going to be perfect but it had one flaw: DULL. It was horribly dull and could not cut paper. So it was time to take out my sharpening kit and get to work. After closer expection the edge was very obtuse and had to be completly redone. Odd that so little time was spent on the edge. In anycase a couple hours later I had her shaving sharp and now she is perfect:D. It wasnt so tough to get a good edge considering hod bad it was. I am so happy with this purchase. Ill do a full review later on when I break her in.

That has some nice scales on it.. I think yours is the first G.E.C I've heard of being dull.

Sweet looking knife Thalestin. It probably wont be your last

I have 3 GEC knives. One came sort of sharp, and the other two were pretty dull with obtuse edges. Luckily the 1095 is relatively easy to sharpen, but it does make you wonder how they could get everything else right, and leave the most important part of the knife unfinished?

congracts on a great knife , got mine about 3 wks ago in bocate wood . gec & QUeen are not great with factory edges.but i rebevel nearly all my knives anyway.i really was impressed with the appearance but the unseen magic was when i grasped it in my hand, few knives have felt better in ones grasp. construction is very sturdy w/o being chunky. knife is approiate for most tasks & will xcell at small game. if desired could be used for trout & perch fishing. however i seldom use folders for this job but many old timers still do.gec quality is so high that they almost look like a custom. anyhow it's time to order another.

So true. I guess its the one part most knife owners can fix on their own easy enough. If you can't probably not much point to own a knife. So its a way to cut cost and make the knife super awesome perhaps? Anyways, I find a knife feels like your own after a good sharpening:)

Congrats on your toothpick! I have been eyeing those up and really like the sabergrind version...sweet.
I got an EZ Open for Christmas and mine came with a less than stellar edge as well. The blade is ground nice and thin, but the edge was just barely passable. Like you guys said though it wasn't hard to put an edge on and made it more personal.
