What do guys think?

I got the .40 with the Tritium Night Sights and put an M3 Streamlght on the rails. So far I've put appx. 200 rounds thru it and it rocks!:D I bought this weapon purely for home defense and now I sleep better now knowing that I have a full clip of Federal Hydroshocks ready to dance!

Go to the Springfield site

Magazine. Not clip. Garands take clips. Handguns take magazines (well, almost all handguns - there are a few oddities).

Other than that, congrats on your purchase. Practice, practice, practice. I know, I know, you really don't want to take it to the range, but you are just going to have to force yourself.:)

Springfield Armory is not a bad first handgun. Congradulations on your new purchase.

My first hand gun...oh the memories: I was a waiter
at this very cool restaurant in Houston, Texas...
there was a very nice gun shop next door. After work I
go in there and look at guns. It was 1973...just like
now, back then I knew nothing...the salesman showed me
a blue Colt Python 357 mag 4". He said "this is the
tit's" I don't remember the price but it was several
hundred back then...I put it on layaway and had it
paid off in 90 days....how'd I loose it...got broke.
Had a rich friend...he loaned me several grand and
the Python was interest...he still has the gun too!!!

It's not a 1911, but it's better than nothing!

Congrats on your first purchase. Now shoot it as much as you can afford to.

Rather than start a new thread, I would like to add the question of what was everyones first handgun to this gentlemans post. For me I was 9 when I recieved my first. It was a S&W 422. Nice plinker and I think a good started for a young kid. I wish I still had it now!

I own an HS2000 which is essentially the same as the SA-XD9. It functions flawlessly with the modified S&W 15rd mag. I bought it for $260 at a gunshow. It's a good gun, but I still carry my Glock. Which btw, was my first handgun. Bought it when i was 19.

Very nice buy....I just picked up this baby. Here is a picture with some knife content.

Nick.....Thats the pistol that I have!...............and the light that I was 5 minutes behind you in trying to buy!. It's a sweet set up. How do you like the light?
Aloha,

wabi

Nothing wrong with that Springfield. I have had the pleasure of shooting a .357SIG recently, and it was great.

Oh, yeah.....get a few extra "CLIPS":p

Pistol-(a handgun whose chamber is part of the barrel), could be single shot, or utilize a 'MAGAZINE'.

Revolver-loaded one at a time, or via 'half-moon' or 'full-moon' 'CLIPS'.

Garand-loaded via an 'en-bloc' 'CLIP'.

Springfield\Mauser type bolt actions (and others)have an integral 'MAGAZINE' built into the receiver that is load one round at a time and can also be loaded (on military weapons at least)via 'STRIPPER- CLIPS'.

Russian SKS types-integral or fixed box MAGAZINE(standard)can also be loaded via 'STRIPPER-CLIPS' or one round at a time.

Weapons using removable 'box' type magazines can also be loaded via 'strippers'.

and....

Pistols, rifles, and revolvers are always FIREARMS OR WEAPONS.

Ships have 'guns' and 'magazines' and always keep your 'gun' in your pants if you don't want to catch 'IT'.

feel free to correct\criticize as necessary....

edited to add: Oh yea, CONGRATS ON THE NEW PISTOL

"This is my weapon, this is my gun...This one's for killing, this one's for fun"...Anyone else remember this from "boot camp/basic-training"?.:).

Man does the Magazine/"C" word thing bring back memories. When I was in the police acadamy, if you used the "C" word it was push-ups, a a$$ chewing. If you did it again, then you ran to the range entrance with a glass of water (you better not spill it!!!). No one ever did it a third, but I'm guessing you became a tactical target.

My first pistol was a Tuarus 92.

Post again after you have used it for a while. I'm curious about this model. Please give a review on accuracy/reliability, when you put more rounds down range.

I probably won't buy a Springfield product again. I got Springfield Champion as an off duty carry, and it jammed like mad. I sent it in 3 times for repairs, and never stopped jamming. On my budget, it was a huge investment, and did not come close to preforming as well as any other pistol I have ever shot. Springfields customer service was very good, but the pistol I got was junk. Pretty, but I'll take function over looks any day of the week. Hopfully my experiance was not representative of Springfield quality, but I will never make enough money in my life to spend $600+ on a 1911, that MAY preform as pooly as the one I had. I always wanted a 1911 (and have all the holster/magazines/ammo for one), but I will try another company when I can afford to buy one again. Opps, off topic, my bad. Rant off

LMAO.....the "C" word gets people fired up every time. :p

WHERE ARE THE STRIPPERS???

Thanks guys for keeping me PC in regards to my "pistol". Let's see if I've got this straight; My gun is not a gun, it is a pistol or a weapon. My weapon (or pistol) accepts magazines, not clips. Sherman burnt Atlanta. Is that about it? Seriously, thanks for all of your great info. You guys are the best!

Here's my first...HK UPS in .40 S&W. I even through in some knife content...just to keep myself out of trouble. Now all I need is a nice bright surefire for that rail and I'll be all set.

Lars, congrats on your pistol. I have heard good things about them and I'm sure you will enjoy it.

Nice to see some other USP fans here :D.
