OMG!
I'm out in my garage today organizing (got the bug) and I came across this!
It's the first knife I ever received!
My Parents got this for me as a birthday gift when I was in first grade. (7 years old?). MY FIRST KNIFE EVER!
Its a Wenger Swiss Army Knife. It had a chain lanyard attached at one point and an engraving of a musket. It had an insert of the Swiss cross but that fell out long ago from hard use. ;)
I remember the exact day I received this. This knife went into the woods with me Constantly and to school (back when you could pocket carry a knife to school). You can see the years of hard use it had.
I use to carve into trees with this in addition to many other uses at various "Forts" and "Lean-tos".
Do you have your first knife and if so post up a picture.
If not do you recall your first one?

Cool find !

This is actually my second knife. My first was part of a kids adventure kit complete with water bottle, compass etc but I lost it. My dad shouted at me for losing it and my grandad seeing how upset I was bought me this Victorinox as a replacement. That was about 32 years ago and I have never lost a knife since !!!

That was a great find mrbear. I don't know what ever became of my first knife, but I still have the scar on the end of my ring finger. It was a small fixed blade that my grandfather used to carry and I was seven. One minute I'm re-creating a scene from West Side Story and the next I'm in the ER for stitches. :o

My first knife was the blue handled Cub Scout knife....I lost it over the years but bought a replacement.

I'm going to refinish this and put it back into service.
Standby for updates. :)

My first was a big Old Timer I believe hunter model. I had it in my pocket every day from around third grade to high school. It's probably somewhere in my parent's house. I hope some day I find it.
Can you imagine a third grader carrying a four inch folder to school today?

That is a very cool find and nice project. My first knife was a cub scout knife that is long gone now. I wish I had it.

That's what scares me, my son is going into 1st this year and he has just acquired not my first knife but my second that I carried from 11yrs old to 14 or so, also gave him a set of three.. Of course I tried to tell him they are to stay in the drawer.. In hopes he'll never take them to school and play the old I forgot it was in my pocket if he were to get caught with it..

My daughter has all my old knives, including my first, an Imperial Camp King. When I see her tomorrow I`m going to ask her to bring them over for photos.

Sweet. It's hard to imagine we use to carry these regular and now Kids would be suspended for that.

We use to have Scout meetings after school.

Common sense out the window.:thumbdn:

Hi mrbear -

I recall my first knife being a Buck Folding Hunter. I saved my paper route money as I remember it (my parents would not buy me a knife), and bought the Big Buck. It had a black leather belt pouch.

I lost that knife pretty quickly (or someone took it - regardless, it disappeared).

The next one I bought was a Buck Ranger - I had already decided a smaller knife was better for carrying.

I lost that one at an all-night beer party in a forest south of town (I think).

I don't have any pictures of the knife, nor do I have pictures of me with it on my belt - I was not one to allow too many pictures of my person back then.

best regards -

Finished this one today. Reground the blades and sharpened/polished.
Then I refinished the scales and they are glue setting in my vise now.
Will post pics tomorrow.
I may carry this for a while!

Here's she is with the blades reground, polished up a bit, and scales touched up.
Pocket carry soon.
Blades show the wear they went through but they sharpened up damn nice.
I can't believe I found this in a box of my stuff in the garage.
Talk about a memory.
