(I am going to try this again - the address is good, it just does not seem to work from the link on this post. If it does not link - copy-paste the link into your browser)

I put a page on my business server to show my first knives. - I think that may be easier than uploading to the forum. Anyway, I see many new members do this and the feedback is always valuable, so here goes... Indian George, if you read this, I'm coming on Saturday .

Here's the link....

Well Bob, I'd say you were off to one He!! of a start. Beautiful knives. I like the idea of etching a tree on the blade. I'm going to try it and see how it comes out.;)

Nice work, they are 01 were is the temper line on them
also I like your plung cuts looks like you were holding
the knife at an angle when grinding???

You do great work! Keep posting pics- I can hardly wait to see what comes off your Grizzly. Good job!

Nathan - to be honest, I've been scratching my head to try and give you an answer on the plunge cuts. As I am still in the learning mode - every grind is a new experience. I do know that my plunge cuts start at a more extreme angle, but straighten out somewhat as I get near the finished grind line. By then, I lighten up a bit as I start each pass at the plunge area and put more pressure towards the tip as I work that shape.

As I get more experienced. I'll probably have a better answer

Very nice knives. I like the looks of wood.
Did you know that a 10 inch wheel is availible for the Griz?
It should be in their catalog.
Nice work

i might not be the slowest at this, but it sure seems it when i see the first few knives at this level. keep going!

Dont you just love it when a guy posts pix of his first knives and they look as good or better than what you`re currently making, after nearly a decade of sweat, burnt fingers, grinder scars,etc.etc.?
Good work man,and BRAVO!!!!!!!!!!
Scott

Bob, those are just great. The Scandanavan influence is noticeable but just that - these clearly are your own knives. You do a great taper and fit your guards well. Good work, and thanks for sharing.

Nathan,
Let your belt run about 1/8 to 3/16 inch outside your platen or contact wheel on the plunge side of the blade you are grinding. When contacting the belt initially, the first point of contact is about 1/4 to 1/2 inch AWAY from the plunge. Once contact is made move the blade and touch the edge of the plunge and be sure that you apply very light pressure at the plunge then move the blade from there all the way to the tip. The funny thing is, I could show you a lot easier in a couple minutes than it is to try to explain it.

With practice, it is fairly simple to get an "arcing" plunge instead of a straight one if that is the desire. Just remember, light pressure. Be VERY careful when you get into the finer grits and especially if tryin to use flexible belts. Trizact belts are too flexible for this. At least from my experience. I always ended up cutting a pretty good groove with them. I stop around 320 or 400 grit.

BTW, Bob. Great looking knives!

C.L. Thanks for explaining to Nathan much better than I could - I can visualize doing exactly what you described, but like you said - nothing would be easier and quicker than showing someone in person.

...Nathan, the visible temper lines ( on #2 and #) are about halfway up the blade angling upward to just past the tip (I edge quenched). I tried to photograph the quench lines (using a Nikon coolpix 950) bu didn't have any luck.

Bob

I thought that was the reason behind the rounded plunges
in the blade.CL I am working on one now and I put a rounded radius
on the plung, you are right when you say light pressure.
You are doing very nice looking work, the grizzly will make your
knife make experence much eaiser.;)
