My horseman has alot of play back and forth...

Just got a Horseman and I noticed that the blade has a decent amount of play back and forth. I looked at the knife closely and realized it was because when the liner is fully engaged and the blade is locked open, the spine of the blade is not making great contact with that stop pin. thus, if i pull the blade back and forth, the blade will actually come off the stop and go back against it. If I put a piece of paper between the blade and stop, the movement goes away. Anyone else have this problem? Is it worth sending the blade back? I don't think this issue effects the safety of the liner lock as I can't get the lock to fail, but it is annoying for a 120 dollar knife...whereas my kershaw skyline locks up super tight..

I called emerson, the said to just send the knife back. I dont think tightening the pivot can take out back and forth play..only side to side...

Thats a weird one

Do you mean you can pull the blade off the stop pin or that the blade
actually dosnt sit on the stop pin when the knife is locked open ?

If EKI are going to fix you up I suppose its all good any way

Sounds like the liner lock was cut back too much if it's allowing vertical movement when the lock is engaged. Yeah, send it back to the dealer you bought it from for another or to Emerson.

Yea, I think the linerlock is too short or something. The blade is sitting on the stop pin but not forcefully enough. I can easily pull the blade off the stop pin when it is locked open. Shipped knife back to Emerson. Kinda sucks cause the address is a PO Box and they can't do tracking numbers to PO Boxes. Makes me nervous when I can't track my packages.

But other than the blade problem...sweet knife. Love the wave system. Works amazingly well when you are wearing jeans.

That sucks arse! Can't they at least track to the PO where the box is?

Today was the first day I didn't carry my Snubby since getting it. I field cleaned it and just waiting for the Loctite to dry so today was the Boker Trance. I missed the Wave! It's addictive, man, very addictive. Well, good luck with your knife. I'm sure Ernest & crew will take care of ya.

They got the knife today. I'm so relieved that it actually got there. I called on Friday when it should have arrived and they said they didn't see it. I worried all weekend! They must be annoyed at me calling everyday...hahah

Just got a little package from emerson today..MY HORSEMAN!!! they decided to replace the knife. The odd thing is that the replacement knife I got is a 2008 production when the one i sent in was a 2009 production. This one locks up super tight, I also noticed the pocket clip is a different design and has alot better tension to it. YAY for emerson!

Thats great to know that Emerson really stands by its knives!

I actually sent two Horseman back (to the stores I bought them from). One had blade play like yours and the other had a problem with the blade scraping the liner when opening... The one I have now is PERFECT!

Congrats and enjoy your Horseman. It is by far my favorite folder I have ever owned.

Yes...i heard the cqc-8 is "preferred by the SAS". haha, can't go wrong with the SAS recommendation. Anyways, the fit and finish of the new one I got is MUCH better than the one I sent in in many ways. I wonder why thought...since the one that was defective was 2009 productions and the new one i got is 2008...i'm worried that Emerson quality may be going downhill. Hopefully not thought....

Thats why I went with the Horsman as well, the opinions of elite fighters must be worth something ;) It just feels so good in my hand.

To be honest, since your new one came direct from Emerson, regardless of the model year I'm sure they hand plucked you out a winner.

The QC variation in models is still sort of wild, I have a mini cqc7a that NONE of my other Emersons can touch in fit/finish and lockup.

They are still my favorite folders though :D

uh oh..my stop pin rattles..hahah no biggie. Also, when the blade is locked in the close position, the blade can be easily pushed to touch the liner on the liner lock side. is this normal? i think it is, but just making sure!

god this thing is sharp...the edge is very interesting thought, the blade's bevel is a V-grind, but the primary cutting edge is like a chisel as it is only ground on one side...i gotta figure out a way to sharpen this thing....

i tweeked mine a little and now it's just right. i liked it so much i ordered a full sized cqc8. i might be looking to part with the horseman after i get my cqc8 (we'll see though)

Thats what all EKI "V" grinds are like.

Just sharpen the bevel side like any other knife but use a ceramic strop on the other side to knock the burr off.
