My Jag is getting sloppy

Anyone have a link to a site that tells about repinning Jaguars and such? I thought I've seen it linked here before, but can't remember which one. (I went through all my Bali links, but can't find it)

thanks!

Yep repin like a bastard as soon as my jag even starts to get sloppy I drop new pins in it. Now if I could only find the damn thing.

Thanks for the link. The handles on my Jag were loose, as described here:

Tell me if I understand this correctly. It seems to say that the pivot pins should keep the two parts of the handle around the tang from spreading apart (causing the slop between the blade and handles). The pivot pins on my Jag were too long to do that. They could be slid back and forth about a sixteenth of an inch. It came this way, I believe. I then tried to use a hammer to fix it, as described on Clay’s site. The pins are not too long anymore, and the play was gone, but I played with it for 10 minutes, and its back where it was. What’s going on with this thing? I can easily push the latch outside of the handle (with almost an eighth inch to spare one way) .

thanks

One of the jobs of the pivot pin is to keep the handle (tang forks) tight against the blade so that the handles will swing in a straight arc. However, Jaguars are known to have bad pivot pins installed from the factory.

Based on what you've described, the existing pins are compressing within itself between the two "heads" and then gets stretched out again when you play. Ideally, you should be removing the excess pivot pin by mushrooming the heads a little more, and thus shortening the length from the ends, not the middles. Try hammering again with 2 old and dull razor blades in between the handle and the blade. This will help remove the slack, and force the pivot pin to compress at the ends. Repeat the process with one of the razor blades removed, and finally again with no razor blades.

If that fails, it may be time to replace the pin. Use the link in the first response for that process.

Hope this helps and good luck.

The thing is, one side of each pin is barely mushroomed. Its almost in the handle right now. Should I still do what you suggest, or are these pins ruined?

thanks Tony!
