Just thought you all might be interested in seeing my in process
work.

This billet started out being 17 layers of 15n20 and c1095
measuring about 1.125 x 1.065 x 8.0 inches. It was drawn and folded once
to get 34 layers. Then it was drawn to about 5/8 inch square by 21 inches
long, cut in half (damn, I need a bigger forge) and then each half was drawn to
about 3/8 inch square by 21 inches long. The 3/8 inch square pictures are
what you see in the first picture. The second picture shows the layers
better.

When I did some calculations, I figured that from the initial
billet, I should have gotten a 3/8 inch square piece that was 68 inches long.
What I actually ended up with was 42 inches of 3/8 inch square billet.
Where did that 26 inches go??!!

I cut this billet twice, and trued up the ends twice. But
that cannot make up 26 inches. Granted the pieces are not exactly 3/8
square, but pretty darn close. Is all that material lost in scale?
Or does the metal compress because the grain structure is getting smaller from
being beaten down with the power hammer?

Anyway, these pieces will be used to make a five or six
bar Persian Twist for my next Jim Hrisoulas style dagger. I am
interested to see what I end up with on this one.

Let me know if you all think the in process stuff is
interesting. If it is I will try to keep posting it. If not,
let me know, you are going to be hard pressed to hurt my feelings by
telling me the truth.
