This is my first true custom knife. I ordered it a year ago after reading about Jens and his knives in Tactical Knives magazine. This is a small knife that will even ride well in your pocket (in the sheath obviously). The pics are crude (taken with a crappy webcam I use for vid conferencing), but get the idea across.

I haven't used it hard yet, but it has worked well for light tasks. It came very sharp. It makes a good folder replacement due to size and attractiveness. It's so pretty that people don't register "knife" when they see it. My neighbor thought it qualified as a work of art. The sheath rides high on the belt, so it doesn't dangle like most sheath knives. This too helps it "hide in plain sight". Another nice feature is the tang hole. A depression in the sheath fits into this hole, securing the knife.

Jens Anso is a pleasure to deal with. He answers email quickly and is willing to help you figure out the details of your knife. The delivery time was a bit long, but this was not intentional on his part (sometimes, life gets in the way of your plans). His delivery time is much shorter these days. I'd order another one from him (been considering his "Hybrid" model).

Specs: Ats-34 steel
Cocobolo scales
Leather thong with Mastadon Ivory fob
Halftanned leather sheath with red/black lizardskin
covering (wetformed to knife).

Knife out of sheath
Knife in Sheath, front
Knife in Sheath, loop side

I don't mind. The base price was $140, but I ordered the fancier sheath (standard is kydex) and Cocobolo handles (standard is micarta). All told, it was $210 after shipping.

BTW, I left Jens' webpage off the first post. It's www.ansoknives.com

Great little knife Chris! I know you must love it, I have one of Jens sheepsfoot knives too. Makes a perfect every day carry.

P.S.

Erdely, you mad hungarian ;), do you live in Hungary if you don't mind me asking? I travel across Hungary like twice a year.

Nice knife. What are the dimensions? I remember seeing that in a magazine.

Hey, what kind of bike do you ride? I got a full suspension Diamond back. Little heavy, but fun. It's on a slow diet...so far Fox Float R, Answer bars, lighter tires.

Sheathed, the entire package (not including thong) is right at 6". The knife itself is a hair over 5". The edge is 1.75". The blade stock is .125" thick.

I ride a 1998 Klein Pulse with an Answer SX-Ti shock (97 vintage, got it on sale), bontrager bar and rims, nukeproof superfly hubs, Shimano XT/LX front/Rear, Gripshift shifters, so on and so forth. IIRC, the weight is somewhere around 25lbs. I could get it down to 23 if I wanted to spend the money, but I don't. It's plenty light and strong to boot.

Don't get too light. Light weight at the expense of strength is a bad thing. Better to take 10lbs off yourself than 2lbs off the bike. Cheaper too. 'Course, I need to take off 30+

Very nice sheepsfoot!!!! Jens makes such gorgeous stuff. I've been spending my last month trying to decide which exact model to order. :)

No my parents grew up there Father North East in Miscolz, and Mother, South West out side of Gyor. I used to go home a lot when I was younger, I haven't been to Europe in 5 years. Currently reside in North Eastern USA.

I've been Jonesing for an Anso Sheepsfoot for about a year now.
Would've had one by now except I got into this whole slipjoint thing and that's been taking up most of my knife budget. I know Buzzbait can relate to that!
mtnbkr and flava, I know this is a small knife. How does it feel when using it? I assume you rest a finger in the hole. Does Jens offer other than ATS-34 for this knife? I'm not interested in his Damascus but was rather hoping he could use D-2, VG-10 etc. Does the straight edge sheepsfoot limit the knife's usage at all?
Thanks for the info.
Lenny

Warning: Mountain bike content.
Just built up a custom Reynolds 853 Steel hardtail. The maker is Jeremy Sycip in San Francisco. Awesome guy to deal with and a gorgeous frame. Built it up with XTR Drivetrain, Dave's Speeddream Wheels, Thomson, Easton, Selle Italia, Avid Mechanical Discs, King HS, Manitou 6 Deluxe, Gripshift etc. It's so sweet!
Handles by telepathy, or so it seems.

I understand all too well!!!! It's not easy to have extraordinarily good taste in knives. ;)

Buzz,
Good point on the good taste thing.
However, I have you to blame for my current slipjoint dementia.
2 of your posts showing pix of your custom 110 and the Bulldog canoe pushed me over the edge.
You do take a nice picture!
I mean the knives, not your face.:D
BTW, my Bulldog stag bone stockman is my absolute favorite EDC knife. I even like it better than my new Queen stockman.

It feels quite sturdy. I haven't done much with it yet. It seems ideal for small tasks or for detail cutting. The hole is too small for your finger. You generally wrap your index finger around the tang right before the blade (there grooves there for traction), your thumb is on top, and the part with the wood scales is towards the back of your hand. You can also flip it over and put your thumb on the traction area. He has other steels, but not the ones you listed, to my knowledge. You could see if he would accept steel you send him for the purpose of making a knife (get it from Kovals mebbe?). This is just a guess. Dunno if he operates that way. The straightege does limit it's use, but not by much. I bought it for a light utility/detail knife (and as a "gent's" fixed blade), I can't imagine a task in those categories that it couldn't handle.

BTW, nice bike. Have heard good things about 853...
