Introducing the Atrox. Named after America's native lion, the now extinct (or is it?) Panthera Atrox.

11 1/2" long. 6 1/4" blade from tip to integral guard.
2 solid pins, hollow rear pin.
Traditional American bowie blade on a hybrid handle combining aspects of both the old and the new.

I envision this knife with ebony scales, and an as-forged finish.
This will make it a low glare non-reflective battle blade.

Slightly smaller than a traditional fighting bowie, it can also be used for camping/ survival chores.

Can you make the picture any larger? :) I think it would look better without the top guard, but I'm not a fan of double guards anyways.

Very nice, even better with a 8+ inch blade :)

Thanks!

With this one, I was thinking of a light-weight carry knife.

The design definitely could go bigger.
On my original blueprint, the top clip was sharpened.

This is what I did in drafting class in high school, instead of making a friggin bridge out of toothpicks for fairies to walk across like everyone else.

Nice looking design. Is there an advantage to not bringing the edge all the way back to the guard?

Yes, it allows for a more even grind near the guard.

You beat me to it!

Also, it is the way many bowies were made, back in the day.
I wanted to marry the old west versatility of the bowie
to a more modern handle design.

Plus, it looks cool as heck in person.

I am going to submit this one to the contest, as soon as I can redraw it with specs, etc.

I would HIGHLY consider NOT using that name. A thief (knifemaker) named Dale Reif made a folder called the atrox. If I recall correctly, it was designed by Pierrella designs, and then Dale Reif didn't didn't give him the proper credit or money.
I don't want to stir up any poop here, but I thought you'd want to know.

I actually named it due to the above, not for dale or pierre or whoever.
never heard of them. Don't think the Atrox him or herself did, either.

I will still enter the contest.
