hey all. just got a new fieldcraft and have a question. i'm a complete novice with knives so bear with me on this.

when i look at the top of the knife(opposite of the edge) the false edge is very uneven where the right side has more grind than the left. so much IMO that it ruins the appearance of the knife and kind of throws off your judgement of the center of the blade. this is when i look straight down at the knife as if i was cutting. is this common or just poor quality? i won't ask about the 1 inch scratch in the nice buffalo handle. i can figure that one on my own.

Factory screw up probably. If it was me, I would take it back. Good luck.

I would call this a pretty common occurance. That's why I always recommend that people purchase their Marbles from A.G. Russell. A.G. gets the cream of the crop, and has the best return policy on earth. I would only order from somebody else if they agreed to thoroughly check the knife before shipping, and had a good return policy (just in case).

Same thing happened with mine. Also the choil grind was off on one side. I spent a couple of evenings with a Dremel tool and a diamond (round) bit and evened them up, though not perfectly. But the main function of the knife -- cutting -- wasn't affected at all, and the Fieldcraft remains oe of my favorite fixed blades:) .

Maybe I'm just too laid back or whatever, but I don't see the big deal about uneven grind lines.
The grind lines don't affect performance, they don't contribute to quality in any practical way, so I don't worry either way about grind lines being even or uneven....
