 cool, I like seeing the "steps" that you post up Brian, keep em comin :) BTW, I am loving my knife, it's starting to get that patina you told me about :D

how is the edge holding up? I am getting a nice patina on my caper companion too....
What I like is that in about 2 min you can get the edge back to where you want it without beating your head against a wall

brian,
Just curious what grit you go to before heat treat. I'm thinking of trying to leave mine at 40 grit seeing how a guy has to grind away again anyway when they're heat treated. It might save a little time that coud be used on something else.

Mike,
I might be scared of leaving them at 40 grit. These are taken to 120 grit and I'll be HTing them tomorrow.
Next batch I may try to leave at 60 grit but it only takes a few miniuts to go a grit higher.....instead of redoing a new blade because it cracked from stress risers :(

Well I don't want cracked blades that's for sure! Thanks for the tip. :D

Hope all your blades are warped!! Did I say that out loud? Sorry.

(just kidding, I look forward to seeing some of the finished product! )

The edge holds very well, and like you said sharpens right up with a couple passes on my sharpmaker with no issues. I have been using Tuff Cloth on the blade instead of oil and it seems to like it so far. I noticed the patina come out the most after using the knife to slice up some nice juicy London Broil a few days ago, it took on a darker, bluish hue towards the tip of the blade.
