We give a way a LOT of stuff on this forum. All we ask people to do is read the OP and make sure they follow the rules. Well, obviously people can't follow rules so we are ceasing all contests for the time being. This last contest Tony started got three comments/questions back to back. In other words, they totally ignored Tony's post. Not acceptable, IMO, especially since all we're trying to do is give shit away. If it hurts the feelings of those I just called out, so be it. When we start new contest then I'm going to see if we can give BFs infractions for those who DO NOT read the OP and follow the rules. I will leave it up to Tony and Shotty to discuss when contests will start back.

Please do. It's actually kind of embarrassing how many people can't read and follow simple instructions. :o

Tony and I are going to check on the infraction thing with the BF brass. If this is possible then I'd like to get contests back up and going ASAP. We like giving stuff away in contests but it makes it very hard to judge them when people don't read the simple rules and follow them.

I just sat down to get the gold membership to participate. I guess I don't need to finish the snow shoes now. I understand how you guys feel tho.

Not to mention that some of our contests will have entires that are 4, 5 and maybe 8pages long. So, when we sit down to judge them if we have to go through 3 pages of commentary that are not entries, then it just makes it harder on us. So, what I'm saying is people who don't read and follow the rules are just making it harder on us for no reason and that's plain rude.

If you have a question make a thread. "Snowshoe Contest Discussion/Questions".

I can understand missing a sentence in 4 paragraphs, we're human, but sometimes it just gets ridiculous. The picture thread has "NO CHATTING" in the link you have to click to go in to it but probably half the posts are "Cool paracord dude". Facepalm!

Why not start a contest thread, sticky it and then lock it. Put "email your pics to such and such and we'll pick a winner"?

Tony's instructions were simple and precise.

Another thing that happens is once a thread gets a couple of pages long people post up without reading the OP. So, to make it simple, instead of worrying about what everyone else is saying or doing, the poster should simply read the OP (if the subject line is contest) then post their entry. I just don't see how much simpler we could make it.

Because they shouldn't have to deal with emails of pics and follow up emails of "Did you get my pics?" Then they would have to upload them since the whole point is us all sharing info and learning.

A different method of submission would be a lot easier to read: powerpoint, pdf, word doc.
Even though this forum doesn't allow attachments directly to threads, which would make it harder for the masses to view, it would make the entries much higher quality and much easier to judge. Some screen shots of the top three entries could always be posted after the dust settles.

Because then we would get the same idiocy just in an email format. I don't need the emails and Tony and Shooty don't need them either. Changing the delivery format will not solve the problem of people not reading rules

Is there a way to limit posts per thread (to 1)? That way if someone chatted or posted a question, they would automatically (via BF) be eliminated from entering said contest.

I realize it doesn't exactly stop chatting, but it would provide a consequence.

I do that but then the contest thread is still cluttered with the 1st post of BS & then their entry :D

Continue on with the Goldmembership it is vital to BF and more Contest will follow soon just trying to hash out some stuff & this past contest was the breaking point

My brain is hurting.

In a forum of primarily adults to get free gear from a company that gives it away like it’s Tootsie Rolls, reading a post shouldn’t be that hard. They shouldn’t have to complicate the process by changing the whole format of the contests.

Here is a thread, here are the rules, post your submittal only per the rules. Don’t follow the rules, DQ-ed (this has happened to me :D). If you have questions, make a separate thread. Is it honestly that hard? They’ve even gone so far as TTD did to make the contest 4 SENTENCES!

I’m not blaming just those that screwed up this contest, we’re all partly to blame. This has been a long time coming.

I don't think this applies to multi page threads either. I asked a question in a thread just the other day and in the SECOND response it was clear they didn't actually read anything other than the title of the thread.

Shame that people can't read and follow simple instructions. Perhaps maybe put NO CHATTING in the thread title. Doubt that would help much though.

I like the entries to be viewed by everyone as to where everybody can see the entry & maybe learn something in the process and that is what the contests are about ...learning and trying something new.

I get enough complaints when a winner is picked (how come he/she won instead of...) I get those after every contest via PM or email.....if entries are to where only mods can see it complaints will be more so

I'm a root cause guy myself and a lot of these suggestions are just a band aid to the root cause. Let's face up here. We're idiots, and unfortunately there isn't a standard access test associated with the internet. So in order to fix this little issue were all going to have to get a lot smarter. I would suggest we all get on that immediately as I would like to win one of these contests.

Great, I just did a search on Reading Comprehension for Dummies and there isn't one. Was a Macrame for Dummies really more important? I'm stumped.
