My Ugly RC-4

When I got my RC-4 some time ago, all that was available was the serrated model. So I decided to grind out the serrations. But they were deep, so I ended up with a funky semi-recurve knife with a slightly blunted point. Jeff pronounced it as "ugly". But it cut well and worked fine. So today, I finished grinding out the serrations, stripped the paint off, gave it a brushed satin finish and a bit more of a drop point. Then I gave it a good convex edge. I am not recommending this, but I like it fine.

It was cheaper than buying a new one.

i like it better this way HD.

i think RAT has a new idea for the next knife and that satin finish just looks spectacular.

SWEET

I don't think so, but thanks. It is not any more funtional that a standard one and more difficult for some people to sharpen. It's a nice little knife, though.

Looks very sharp and the re-curve isn't really that pronounced as to affect sharpening.
Definitely not ugly.

How did you get the coating completely stripped from the file work on the spine like that?

I used Klean-Strip in the spray can from Walley World. I sanded the spine and softened the edges on the pommel a bit, too. This thing has a scary sharp edge and a wicked point. I used the new upside down grinding technique that I learned from Mike Stewart on the edge and point. Came out darn near perfect. :D

I have to give it to you, Horn Dog, that is a nice looking knife. Nice job!

Great steel. Takes a wicked edge. :D

We had a federal LEO email us today saying that one of his team had already spent some time in the ER due to our sharp knives. All I can say is Shon does a great job heat treating 1095 and it does take a great edge.

This is great steel, but I think Horn Dog could sharpen a bar of soap if he wanted!

I was imagining my new SW SAR with that mirror edge you do!

I like the way the recurve looks on that knife. I have a couple of folders with a recurve blade and they cut super easy.

Nice job Bro. I covexed the edge on my rc4, but couldn't bring myself to removing the coating and moding it further. Yours is very unique and looks great.
