I just thought I should show off my newly rehandled Vantage Pro that Eric did for me. It's done with maple burl. Beautiful job Eric.

As a public service I state, from the very beginning I have had ideas of a small Avid with stag scales. And being a knife mangler, I was getting out the set of trox drivers. But I swear someone said that taking apart a Vantage was easy but putting it back together was hard.

So now that Dave has broke the Vantage scale ice, someone who knows comment about the difficulty of doing Vantage scales at home. Before misery sets in across the nation.

Actually what I want now is a 340 sized Paradigm.

Beautiful knife Dave! Are the scales about the same thickness as the original?

Nice work Eric!!

Very nice.
I've been wondering why no one else has done this by now, the knives are pretty easy to work with. I've been getting ready to make a bunch of scales and bought some vantages the other day just to do it.

Go for it 300, they go back together very easily for anyone with a modicum of mechanical skills. I mentioned in another thread that I've got a couple of Selects that I'm going to do the same thing with simply because the scales are so easy to get to.
Cheers,
Russ

Plumbr ( and Arks ): turned out beautifully!!! Hopefully the first of MANY custom Vantages.

300, It's simple but when you take the pivot screw out, have a properly sized pin to slide in place to keep blade, and more importantly, pivot washers in place. If you push the pivot out with a small dowl pin, it will be a breeze. I took mine apart without doing that and pulled the blade out and trying to line up those little washers is a pain-low tolerance.

Very beautifully done.

Question:

Besides the pivot screw, how are the scales held to the liners? Would that be epoxy?

That's beautiful! Congratulations. Was thinking about checking into getting something different on my Paradigm that Chuck Buck signed for me. Maybe I should give Eric a holler and see what he can do?

Gorgeous result. Well done. It looks like a knife blade is growing out of some wood. Perfect woodland camo. The burl looks like it would be a challenge to work with and to keep from fracturing. Thank you for sharing and terrific pic.
