I was told by a rep group salesman, not a Spyderdo representative, that Spyderdo had filed for bankruptcy. Before anyone starts throwing things, I'm posting this here in CyberSpyder land so we can kill this now before it starts to spread.

Sal, is there anything to this rumour?

Take care and stay well,

Mike Crenshaw

Quothe Sal (in another thread) - "I'll be gone for several weeks for the IWA Show in Germany. You can play with them until I get back (mid March)."

(Some posts really oughta go via private email.)

There is no truth to that.

John

Hi All.
Just goes to prove that people have too much time on there hands. I think I would know since I deal with a lot of our venders.
Dont sweet the rumuor's.
Have a great day.
Vince.

Mike C, did this guy also tell you the one about KFC using geneticaly enginered chickens, with no beaks, feathers or feet to cut down on processing costs? LMAO

When I saw the KFC one it took me a moment to determine that it was a joke or some PETA crank rumour.

This isn't the typical BS that competetors representatives tell. That fertelizer comes as bank note/creditor cutoff sillyness. Sal, et al, need to know that this sort of thing is starting up so that it can be countered before it costs a few thousand dollars in confusion. Rumours have put smaller businesses out of business and hurt larger ones.

Take care,

Mike

It's really a shame that rumors like these get started. We've also heard that the rumor was being spread by salesmen from particular rep groups (sorry, private info as to which ones)

Spyderco had cash flow problems and we are still making the necessary adjustments to sort it out. (New General Manager, New controller, etc.). Things are already improving and we're on schedule with our plan.

Business is a constant effort. Sometimes easy, sometimes more difficult. I know that some companies run to the "protection" of "filing" when they have problems, mostly to avoid paying their vendors.

Spyderco has long term honest relationships with our vendors and honor dictates that we take care of them.

Please do not perpetuate the rumor.

If you ever go to the bank - don’t forget to tell them you have the best asset in the web-world - the most dedicated clients.

This forum goes to proof.

Sal. it seems a responsible way for someone to respond to such a rumor; go on to the forum and ask about it. You can then deny it without seeming to make a statement that has no basis in a question. I know the forgoing seems convoluted, but I am tired and I am trying to say that it gives you the excuse to go public and respond.

I have no respect for rumour-mongers, either.
BUT, IMO, HSO could not have raised the matter in a better place. It brought the vampire out into the light where it could be killed quickly.
Frankly, I think Sal should thank the original poster for the opportunity to scotch a young rumour before it gained a lot of impetus.
Enough of the "shoulda been on private email" stuff.

Just a thought.

Its not Spyderco that's bankrupt but people like me who can't get enough of their fine knives!

I have mixed feelings about doing "rumor control" in public in this sort of case. Now that the rumor has been reported and declared false, let's stop posting to this thread (like I just did!) and let it sink quietly off the top screen here, to reduce its potential for causing harm.

with respect, there is nothing wrong with the thread, IMO.
A rumour has been addressed and the truth is out. Nevertheless, the rumour will, probably, live on "out there" for a while....that is the nature of rumours. At least those who have read this thread know the truth.
The longer the thread stays current, the more members will be aware that the story is without merit. Maybe the experience will make a few of us less likely to embrace new rumours in the future.
Let's not treat the whole thing as "unmentionable" and regard the messenger as a leper.
Just a thought.

Actually, the rumor has been around since last SEP or OCT. Quite a few people called us about it. It did in fact cause us harm in that until the truth was known, there were some vendors that were very concerned. We do support a fair number of craftsmen.

We even have some evidence to support the fact that it might have been intentional, but we don't know for sure.

James, I appreciate your concern and I'm sure it will "fall off" in time.

Spyderco's "Values" statement in our Mission is: "To conduct business in an honest, fair and proper manner".

Nothing has changed.

Sal, having been to your fine facility, meeting the Spyderco staff and owning a fair number of your products... your doing great!
Love your mission statement and slogans! "Spyderco's "Values" statement in our Mission is: "To conduct business in an honest, fair and proper manner" also your mug slogan "Integrity is being good even if no one is watching" Words to live by! Fish

I, for one, am glad to see this posted here so it can be dealt with.

I have had a few customers ask me if it is true and, while I tell them no, I do wonder if something's up. Now I know and can be more definitive when I answer the question.

It appears to me there may be some skullduggery afoot here. It's tough in the business world sometimes, unfortunately.
