which is sharper? is easier to sharpen? has better edge holding? has thinner blade stock? assuming they're both NIB and PE. I'm considering both - I currently have a Delica VG10 SE which I think is a very well-sized folder for urban carry. I like the Delica's shape but everyone seems to be raving about the Native S30V. Or should I wait, and save for the Camillus robodominator / Tim Wegner's Pro Hunter....

your views pls...

thanks,

I have both and the VG-10 Delica FRN PE was sharper out of the box despite the S30V Native FRN PE being hair-popping sharp out of box.

The Delica's blade is very thin and flat ground whereas the Native is fairly thick and hollow ground. Were you to reprofile the edges, the VG-10 takes a real long time and the S30V is quicker to shape. The Native, with its integral choil, S30V steel, and thicker blade and handle, is sturdier feeling than the Delica and can be closed with one hand with a higher degree of safety and feels like it would pinch a finger (versus removing one) should its lock fail.

Haven't tried the Camillus or Wegner Blade-Tech knife, but they're both good companies, too.

ok, thanks. you're right about the VG10 - I'm reprofiling my Endura to 22or23 degrees included and it's taking a heck of a long time, even with diamond stones.....but, after reading Cliff Stamp's comments that better steels (I'm assuming VG10 falls under this) can take shallower angles, I'm going that route for maximum performance.

If you're headed for proformance, then the VG-10 Delica will be better.

I thinned my C52 Calypso jr lt PE VG-10 to 20deg inclusive, and then backed my edge to 30deg inclusive(a few strokes on 800 grit stone).
Slices and shaves like nothing.

I find VG-10 very easy to work with to both reprofile and sharpen, but I reprofile on a 200grit benchstone, and work the grit up to my 800, maybe moving to the spydie grey and whites depending on the intended use for that knife. The 800grit works well enough for daily tasks, and CAN shave...

My other journey for a *sharp* knife is my ATS-55 SS 'Fly. Has a convex edge from a 20deg inclusive. Took the edge down, and it was starting to degrade on boxes, so I decided to convex it to see if I could have a sharper edge, longer.

reprofiling is a bitch on my VG10 Endura!

I've spent a total of 1 hour using Ben Dale (Edgepro) diamond stones and it isn't done yet - there's still a thin 30deg edge from my previously using the Sharpmaker. I think I might have even scraped the diamonds off the stones, even tho I was careful not to use too much force.

also, I'm having trouble sharpening the area near the ricasso - the stones don't seem to touch that area at all - there's nothing I can do.

any ideas?

thanks,

Where can you get a Native in S30V? Is this the new blade steel of choice for the Native, or an option?
