Hey guys,

I have a 2 burner NC Knifemaker Forge. The flux is tearing up the fiber wall liner in the forge. I bought a bottom welding brick form Centaur, but it did not help much.

I saw Bruce Bump's idea of placing a steel plate in the forge bottom when not welding.

What can I line my forge with that will not eat away so easily?

Thanks in advance

I'm not sure why the flux is tearing up the sides Greg. That's normally a bottom problem. I use Kaowool on all mine and the flame from the burner eats away at it. That's not only bad for the forge, It's bad for me. To ease this some I use firebrick on the wall opposite the Gas jet. You may try something like that. They also make a hard Kaowool board. Even that is not flux proof. It just resists a little longer.
Good luck!

My forge is finally wearing out and it is all due to my damascus and fluxing. When it gets a reline job Im going with the original lightweight firebrick sides and kao-wool hard board ceiling and castable refractory floor poured onto hard firebricks. The floor is cast rounded so flux flows out of the door and dribbles into a pan outside the forge. Someone mentioned a stainless floor, thats next too. I like the ease of a mild steel plate to keep the work off the wet flux on the floor.
