Greetings all, I am attempting to push a "dog-tag" type chain through the hollowed out sleeve of some paracord. I only have managed to shove through about 3" and it ain't going anywhere!
So, since this is the "how to" forum, how do I do this without swearing a blue streak?
Thank you in advance for your replies.
Mongo

I'm not sure of your sizes
but I'd run a small stiff wire through and
attach the chain to it and then pull it through
***********
you can't push a chain very far :(

The only time I've seen a chain push, was a
Chevy pushing a ford with it. ..:D :D :D

I'm ready to duck now  :footinmou :D :D

Use one of the inner strings of the para cord (if I am thinking of the right kind of cord) tie it to the ball chain and then pull it through. I remove all of the inside string and as I do so thread the chain. I have done this to a neck knife or two to silence the chain but still have something that will break if pulled.

I'm not sure how you're doing it, but I would tie a piece of fishing line to the end of the chain, then run the fishing line through the paracord. Once through, pull he fishing line through with the chain attached.

Well so far... not too much luck. I tried the fishing line thing... actually it's suture material, but only got it about 8" in before it stopped moving and the string then broke. Maybe I'll try some wire of some sort... coat-hanger? Hmmm, off to go find a wire coathanger. (having a strange vision of Joan Crawford whipping her daughter and screaming "what did I tell you about wire coat-hangers?")

Sylvester you got it didn't you:D :D
never had to have a chevy towed
that's my story and I'm sticking to to..:D :D :D

I have used the same method that feth described and it worked well. This was after trying the push it through method for a ½ hour or more.

Mongo -- you need some better fishing line! Hope it works out for you. how are you planning on attaching the chain after it's done?

If your using the 550 paracord, then the idea Feth put forth sounds like a winner to me. Wish I'd thought of this myself before doing the ol' thread the ball chain shuffle. :footinmou

All the best,
Mike U.

I use the paracord with 7 inner strands for making neck chains... just pull out six of the strands and tie the chain to the 7th one and pull it through. Works pretty darn well for me, I've made more than a couple for personal knives and a few for customers as well.

I do this all the time. I use safety wire or 22 ga. galvanized wire. Pull the strands out of the 550.wrap the wire around 3 links of chain. double up the other end and push it through the 550. pull the chain through gently.after I trim and heat the ends I put heat shrink over that.
