Just got a new BK-11 CSM! Very interesting and unique. Kinda' like a box a chocolates never know what you're going to get :p I would love to put some handles on it but not finding what I'd like - anyone make them out of ivory, tusk or horn? something very light colored with strong pattern like a Andean Alder? help

sorry, but the closest I have seen to any of those materials mentioned that is readily available is Ka-Bar's micarta.

Closest to what your talking about is ivory micarta, probably the closet thing to real horn/anter/bone. I only work with synthetics since I'm not gonna pay 100 bucks for an inspection of stuff and truth be told I'm not rally a fan of all those natural materials.

It would be awesome though to have clear handles that you can fill with fake blood..etc.

I'd be happy to make you up a set of wood ones. I haven't worked with bone or ivory or anything like that yet. If I can find the material, I can see if I have the tooling for it. But I've got some bocote, which is pretty light stuff. And I have a local Woodcraft and a few other exotic wood stores where I could find other materials. Need to get a new saw blade before I can really set up for resawing, but I could probably throw something fun together for you. If you want it permanent with fancy things like mosaic pins or filework, you'll have to send it. Tommythewho or Jim62 (72?) could probably help you as well.

Thank you all! I have some solid leads now. My goal is to pair the Necker with a 1911, where these kind of grips are the inspiration. Kinda' like what Microtech did with the STG I'd like to match blades with guns. Like G10 scales are a match with VZ grips. Wood grips are the ultimate for me.

This is what I'm seeing in my mind's eye tonality-wise:

Papa. I've got a set of bone linen micarta laying around that I could toss your way if you want them. They supposedly start looking like bone (which is for the most part true) and with use, turn a sort of brownish amber color (no idea if it’s true). If I remember right I put blood red liners on them before I changed my mind on using them. They should be big enough to make some decent handles with. I will double check in the morning when I get home.

When it rains it pours! Thanks everyone for all the responses - working with Jim on some custom stuff :) and am going to get something nice for the 16 from Tommythewho!!!

Tankerwolf, looking forward to the pics although not know if could make them fit? took wood shop in 8th grade and that's the extent of my experience :p my Mom still has the table and bowl LOL

namida, what thread was that?

crimsonfalcon07 - I only have the one necker but maybe later! Thanks Captain Airyca for the referral.

Sam Hell - I'd want clear just to see the metal layers inside :p

CamH_16 - yah I know, it's a commitment for a special Becker though and will be handed down when I long past gone. Provided our Bill of Rights doesn't get perverted more than already!

thanks for the pics Tankerwolf! I would just destroy those though with my hamfisted attempts :( so they should go to someone with more worthy skills.

salamat po namida - that BK2 is AWESOME with those grips, leather sheath, everything!!! a more "clich" style blade treatment and I'd say it would be the best one yet :D
