Hey guys,

Because of work and all, I have been wearing alot of trousers. I am looking for some thing that will be small and flat. For this size, I would really like a slippie. I would like something that's easy to clean. I was thinking about the ag russell 2.5 titanium lockback. My only hangup about the knife is that it's a lock back and there is no lnyard attachement. Feel free to give your advice.

God Bless

I'll recommend, of course a sak such as a cadet or money clip. The pioneer settler is also pretty thin, though it doesn't have the lanyard ring. Also the victorinox secretary is a nice slim knife. Another non sak option I like is a Case small copper lock, sturdy, slim and looks nice as well.

The Ultimate Pen Knife is the same style as the Titanium Lockback, and just as thin, but the Ultimate Pen Knife doesn't have a lock and it does have a bail where you can tie a lanyard.

Have you considered one of the smaller Swiss Army Knives from Victorinox or Wenger? Dispite their reputation as "toolboxes", there are many models that are very slender and lightweight, while retaining just the tools that a slacks-wearing gentleman would use, like tweezers, nail tools, and toothpicks. The Victorinox Escort and Rally come to mind. There are even some models available in silver-metallic handles that are more 'dressy' than the standard red plastics. But you probably knew all that...

Here's the Victorinox Silver Alox Companion:

I recently had one of the little laminated ZDP-189 blades in the shop making a kydex neck sheath for it and was IMPRESSED with it! Cute little blade that was nice and thin! Should be a GREAT little cutter.

Hi,
I have a Swiss Army pioneer settler and it's VERY slim and a nice little knife.

Good luck,
Brett

have you considered a douk-douk? or perhaps a mercator knife, though it is a lockback.

I also agree on the smaller Victorinox alox handle knives, but very few of them have a lanyard ring. like Bob said, the companion does, as does the alox classic. If you want a more conventional knife the Victorinox secretary is a plain two blade pen knife with silver alox, but no keyring for lanyard, BUT, the Wenger version called the patriot IS available with a keyring for lanyard attachment and is very flat and light. Also, the Wenger patriot has a clip blade for the small blade which is kind of nice. Why have two spear point blades on a small knife?

Siguy, good call on the Douk-Douk. The small one is so flat some people have been known to carry one in their wallet as an "extra". I know the regular Douk's have a lanyard ring, but I'm not sure about the small one.

Be carefull on the Mercator. They used to be VERY good knives, but I think I heard that they were being made in a different place now. (?)

The first think that hit me from the thread title was also an alox S.A.K.

Victorinox Cadet 5/16" thick, 3 1/4" long, about 7/8" wide; the Alox comes in silver and for a limited time Autumn Orange, Green, Gunmetal, Black and I think Red (the color is pretty durable but will wear with time, it can be scratched by keys and coins, silver never looks bad even when it is scratched). It has a large blade, nailfile, Can opener/screwdriver (small flat head and some Phillip's), Bottle opener/screwdriver/wire stripper and a lanyard ring. There is a variation that has a small blade in place of the nailfile, it is discontinued but can be found on eBay and other places (this is only available in silver). I carry a Cadet at work (they have an anti-weapons policy which is very broad and not tied to the legal definition) and I wanted a knife that was small and mostly harmless looking (to avoid sheeple) and yet still be useful and a knife. The stainless and aluminum add to my peace of mind that some chemical I end up working (I work in a CNC shop and the chemical I handle regularly are pretty harmless, but the odd cleaner or coolant might damage plastic, wood, horn or bone scales) with should it contact the knife will most likely not damage it; also the chance is there that it will get banged up and the Alox can take most things. Oh and if somehow I manage to destroy or damage this thing (I don't abuse knives) they are fairly cheap to replace (about $30US).

There are a number of other Victorinox knives in Alox that are slimmer (Secretary and Bantum in 3.25"; Solo and Pioneer Settler in 3.5")

I started carrying the very thin Spyderco Cricket (VG-10 blade steel) at work. I'm very pleased with it. I don't think you can find too many knives that are any thinner.

Stay sharp,
desmobob

I picked up a SAK Cadet two weeks ago at my local knife store for $22. I had no idea how thin the Alox scales were until I handled it. It disappears in the pocket, and has just a slightly smaller blade and overall dimensions than the Soldier, which is what I was looking for.

A Case Canoe, or Victorinox 85mm Alox SAK (like a Bantam or Cadet) would work well.

My current favourite knife for those odd days when I've got to wear a suit is Kershaw's Gentleman's Lockback. Slim, very well made and with a nice VG-10 blade. It's the smoothest lockback knife I own.

+1 on the WH Legacy...saw it at Blade and was very impressed. Weighs nothing. Although it's a friction folder, it does have a bit of a detent when open.

Of course the Vic's are top, but my 70's Gerber Silver Knight is also a very usefull trouser carry slipjoint: VERY flat and only about 3 1/7 long:

I would prefer a knife of this size to not have lock. It's more or less point less for a small folder. I would like a knife that I can rinse in the sink for easy cleaning. Thanks

God bless
