I am in need of a premium e-mail account which will work seamlessly with my Blackberry pearl. I am losing my old school account as I am not currently registered for any classes. Any recommendations? Thanks. -DT

I use gmail, yahoo, and optonline with mine and they all work great. Optonline is a cablevision product which I dont think you have down there. msn wont work with their free accounts but will work if you have a pay account. And I have never gotten AOL to work at all. So gmail and yahoo are the way to go.

Note that there are 2 ways to get email on your BB. One is to have it forwarded to your BB email address from any 3rd party email account that will do forwarding. The other is to have it "pushed" from an email account, meaning that your BB service goes out to the 3rd party account and steals a copy of the email off the server, leaving the original on the server.

The forwarding method means that you get incoming email instantly.

The pushed method checks for email on the 3rd party server every 15 minutes. Then if it finds any, it checks again every minute for 2 or 3 minutes (I forget).

You can also set up different notifier sounds and filters for each type. I have important emails (boss, secretary, Wifey, kids' teachers) forwarded so I get them instantly, and have an "important" notifier sound associated with them. All others are pushed, and get an "unimportant" sound.

Its easier than it sounds.

RugbyMatt - Signed up for a gmail account (which is free, BTW) and it works perfectly! powernoodle - I now understand why my e-mails have always been delayed for 10 or 15 minutes thanks to your input. With gmail I recieve my e-mails on my blackberry within seconds. Who would have thought you could find such useful info on a website dedicated to knives. BFC rocks! -DT

A thought on email accounts:

Our email accounts as well as our cell phones have become the most important way that friends and family reach many of us. Unfortunatly, when you change them, there is no forwarding or listing where others can look up your new number or email address.

That said, I recently got a premium address at Yahoo for $20/yr. That gives me pop3 forwarding and no "commercials" in my email. You can use the Yahoo website for access or set up Outlook or your smartphone / pda to retrieve your email.

This will let you keep the same email address, forever, regardless of your school, employer or ISP.

They offer a free version but there is no pop3 and there is advertising at the bottom of every outgoing email.

HTH

I use gmail, you can download the gmail software directly to you BB, it works seamlessly including different alert styles and the such from the BB menus. I did use the BB email for a time and used pop3 to access my email from gmail, but the google software is terrific.
