Hello I am new to the forms and new at buying knives. I was looking at getting a buck knife for every day use. Something that I don't have to worry about breaking or falling apart on me and will last. I cant buy another of those cheep liquor store knives again its a waste of money. I am going to use the knife for every day use cutting boxes, rope, etc, I just want a good pocket knife that will last me a long time. I was looking at the 110 models, I have about $60 to spend. The 110 EcoLite caught my eye but if any one can give me advise, it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you

Mphereesos, a 110 Ecolite will do what you want... A Vantage Avid would work too... But remember always buy what you like and not what we like... You have to use it... Good luck on finding a knife that you like and welcome to the Buck Forum... ITE ... :)

Are you signed up on e-Bay? Take a good look at the 112 (an older one, especially). Good deals are available and it's the same as the 110 only a little lighter and smaller with a three inch blade. Built like an army tank and carries real nice. You may want a finger-groove model. Good to think about as some people later handle a finger-groove model and regret not getting one in the first place.

Just get what you like the very best......that way you'll never have a regret.

Welcome to the forum. The question you ask has hundreds of "right" answers! What's the right knife for one person is different for the next. My favorite Buck is the 110 but I seldom carry one, especially in an urban invironment. Of course, I'm retired and don't really use a knife for any type of real work.

A 110 is a great knife but in my opinion isn't a "pocket knife" and is best carried in it's belt sheath. The smaller 112 may work better for pocket carry for some, but it still makes a big lump in my pocket and when carried always goes in a belt sheath also.

The Vantage line may just be the ticket for you if you are looking for a single blade, larger knife that carry's well in a pocket with the pocket clip. They are available in two different sizes and several versions, plastic, paperstone, Dymondwood and G10 handles. They also come in three types of blades, 420HC, 13C26 Sandvik and S30V. They are probably the best value out there for the money.

My personal favorite for EDC and one I never leave home without is the 301. For me, it's the perfect size to carry. You will just have to buy several (:D) and see what works the best for you.

I'll now turn this over to others. You will more than likely get just about as many different answers as you will get responses. That's the beauty of the Buck Knife company, there are so many great choices, they can just about please any taste in knives.

Here's a comparison photo to show the size of the large Vantage compared to the 110.

The 110 is a classic blade. it will work great for you. The newer vantage series has a better steel and will be more friendly for EDC purposes. Other companies out there are Benchmade and Spyderco. I reallly like my Benchmade mini-griptilian. it works really well for EDC stuff. the classic blades by both Benchmade and Spyderco in that price range are the

Griptilian series (mini-grip and full size, 556 and 551) by Benchmade
and the Delica and Endura series by Spyderco.

Again its whatever knife works for you. Everyone will try and tell you what knife to get, but if that one doesn't work for you then its no good.

good luck with your choice.

If you do get a buck 110 and don't like carrying it in its sheath, then you can get it modded by STR. I had him put a pocket clip on mine.

My EDC is a 501. I could get used to a 500 also (same just a little bigger) and I like the vantage to. But I was given a 501 stag handle by my family for fathers day and can't seem to leave it at home.

I'll just stick to the Buck line since that's what the OP is asking about. Here are a couple more that I like that will fall into your price range. The top two are the Bantam models 385 and 385. There's also at least one smaller version and they also come in regular camo. The third one down is the large Bucklite Max 486 which also comes in a smaller version. Of these two, my favorite is the Max. It's easier to open one handed than the Bantams.

Go check out the For Sale Thread at the top of this forum. Usually good folks selling knives. Some will fit your need.

Meso, I like many of the models already reccommended plus the guys here are quite knowledgable. If I were you I'd first go to a well stocked cutlery retailer in your area and handle everything they have . Then walk out with the one that pleased me the most with all its features. Let us know what you come up with. DM

I love the Ecolites and if you have $60 to spend, you can get a 110 and a 112.

Standard wood handled 110 and 112, 500, 501, Vantages and Bantams will all meet the need you are looking to fill. None of them will fall apart and all are backed by Bucks 4ever warranty:D

Welcome to the Buck Forum. As others have said the 110 in any variation is a can, do last a lifetime knife and would handle just about any normal, daily cutting needs you might have. The Vantage series are the same though as pointed out they are more a pocket knife than the 110. In the true "pocket knife" line I like the Buck 301 series, just pick the color scales that appeal to you and you're good to go. If you don't feel the need for three blades the Solitare line offers a great cutting single blade in a much slimmer package. I've got some of each and love'em all. Good luck to you and welcome to the Buck Brotherhood.

I want to thank every one for there input, I ended up getting a Buck Vantage Pro. The one hand opening was a real sell for me, sometimes I only have one hand and the knife fits real nice in my hand. Once again I want to thank everyone!

I'm a huge fan of the Vantage. I EDC a Select Paperstone. The Pro is in your price range and well worth it.

Yup, Vantage all the way. Any one of them will do you but I like the 345 420HC with the Dymondwood scales. Hard to find but when you do they are AWESOME! I'll carry mine to my grave, their that nice.
