Need help selecting best multi-tool

I'm planning a trip to SMKW sometime in the near future and I'm going to get a few knives and a multi-tool or two. Anyway, I'm having trouble deciding. Price is not an issue, as long as it's worth what I pay for it. Weight doesn't matter either. All of the tools have to lock in place, and either the pliers or some of the tools must be acessable (*sp) with one hand. Individual rotation is a big plus, and so is Gerber's jigsaw coupler thing. Out of these, which one would you reccomend and why? Thanks.

Gerber 800 Series Legend

Gerber 650 Series Evolution

Gerber BYO 600 Series , left set P1 Black, right set W2 black, jaw style bluntnose black, forrest handles

Swiss Army Swiss Tool CS Plus (I know it doesn't have all locking tools, but the amount of tools it has is very impressive)

Spyderco SpydeRench (I don't think it has all locking tools, but Spyderco has never let me down)

The Gerbers seem to be the best because of the spring loaded pliers/one handed opening pliers/interchangable plier heads and the RemGrit blades and the jigsaw blade coupler, but I'm also open to suggestions. Thanks again.

The Gerber 800 Legend has become my favorite multi-tool because of its heft and the tool features you mentioned. I own a Wave,Pulse and a Bucktool but the Legend is the one the rides on my hip these days.
I would like to get a SpyeRench just for the cool factor though.

See the multitool reviews in the "gear" section at www.equipped.org. I found them to be very comprehensive and they persuaded me to select the Leatherman Wave.

Leatherman Wave. Do a search under "wave" or "Leatherman". You should find lots of positive comments.

I vote for the Swiss Tool. Get the one that comes with the accessory tool and bits. It doesn't attach to the tool like the the Leatherman adapter does but ti works and allows you to customize your bit selection.

The Wave is a good choice, but all the blades do not lock open. Look at the Pulse. It's less expensive and everything locks.

Have had many and always come back to Leatherman. Doesn't mean they will work best for you but I like the Wave, Pulse, and ST200 and would choose one of those depending on which features are most important (locking implements, one-hand opening blades, etc.)

If I get a Leatherman, it's going to be a Super Tool 200. Unless Gerber has improved their quality of the Legend noticeably, then it's not an option any more. (according to equipped, it had major flaws but would have had awesome features if they worked). Anyway, thanks for the help.

I really haven't found a multi-tool I don't like, well, except the $7.00 ones made in China.Anyway, you can't go wrong with the Gerber 800 Legend.Pick-up some extra saw blades and of varying purpose. As I recall,I immediatly replaced the saw with one that had a tighter fit.You just need to trim some excess off with tin snips so it folds back into the handle.

I'd forget about the Spyerench. It's been out of production for way over a year. I'm not confident we'll ever see it again. I still favor the Leatherman Wave. Lots of interesting new tools have hit the market since the Wave was introduced in 2000 but none of them have motivated me to switch. Take care.

Clipiteer, don't mean to be rude, mate , but after
reading your post I have to wonder just how
important the "toy" factor is to you.

You say you want one handed ability and such.
Kinda' limits your choices doesn't it??

By way of recommendation consider this.......
None of the "tools" you have listed are really
geared for hard work. At most they offer a lot
of "Gee whiz" and not much else sorry to say.
If ,just if, you want a working tool look at
( ya knew this was coming didn'tcha'?)
Leatherman or Sog. Both have a lot to
offer for real work. A lot........

I would recommend the Swisstool (all tools do lock BTW). The Supertool 200 is also very good, but it is much easier to get to the Swisstool's blades and tools (no need to unfold handles, no clumping, tools are easily unlocked and can be closed (but unforunatly not opened) with one hand).
OTOH, many do prefer the Supertool, so you may want to check it out as well.

Has anyone checked out the new(ish) Gerber 700? I'm curious to see it's size/weight and how good a multi-tool it is. It looks pretty decent from the website..

You forgot one I think is worth mentioning: The SOG Powerlock, all tools on it lock and you can flip it open like a Bali-Song. SOG has a good reputation for all their products, and being a pleased Leatherman Wave owner, i'm still tempted by it.

Gerber 400 Sport Plier. I like it the best because all tools lock, it's small enough that I don't mind it in my pocket and it's easy to open with one hand. I dislike Leatherman tools because the pliers often stick together when attempting to use them at least on my old one. Maybe the new ones are better. I looked recently at the Juice and thought it was a joke- terrible ergonomics, the only thing it had going for it was the color.
