I've been looking at Ray Cover slipjoints longingly for a looooooong time ;) and I might want to get one as a gift for my dad (and one for me too). I've been told that his son, Jeff, makes similar blades, with fit and finish just like his dad (is this really true?)...but at half the price. If this is indeed true, Jeff's prices fall within my modest budget, so I most certainly want to order one.

Does he have an email / phone / website? Anyone know his waiting time?

Thanks!!!

Jeff makes similar knives, but not nearly as finely finished as his Dad's. Still very nice knives and certainly worth what he charges, but don't expect perfect grinds and folders with zero blade play, etc...

Danbo nailed it.

GREAT knife for the money.

The one shown at about 11:00 with red bone is by Jeff and it runs about $125 or thereabout's.

Call Ray to get in touch with Jeff, his number is 573.749.3783.

you mean Jeff's folders have bladeplay and uncentered blades? sorry if I'm being straight here...I like to support up and coming makers, but not sure I can live with bladeplay or uncentered blades or weak lock-up...

Not sure I agree here.

My slip from Jeff has a centered blade, snaps open nicely with no slop, snaps closed nicely and has very little side to side play which for a slipjoint is acceptable IMO. Back spring sits flush opened and closed as well.

Never seen him make a lockback so I can't comment on vertical play.

The only real flaw I can say it has is that the one dovetailed bolster has a flaw in the transition to the bone but you have to really be looking for it.

I know Danbo has more first hand experience with their work than I do, but you're not going to touch anything in a custom slipjoint anywhere near his prices and if you're not happy with it send it back.
