Larry, what is the handle material in that gorgeous knife in your banner? Any tips on how you cut the curves in the bolsters and make the scales an exact mirror copy??

Always think of your fellow knife makers as partners in the search for the perfect blade, not as people trying to compete with you and your work!

Brother L6! I've been admiring some of those big bowies of yours. I'm a closet big knife fan!
That's walrus jawbone scales in the banner knife. An artist friend gave me a complete jawbone and of course I applied the bandsaw to it and came up with "knife" material.
I cut my curves on my Shisouka CNC mill, but
Bailey Bradshaw has a neat trick to do it manually. Get some D-2 and make templates. Heat treat the fire out of the D-2 and don't draw it back, clamp your materials to it and grind to the edge (gently). You would need two templates. It would take some hand fitting to get the templates to match OR!
You could heat treat a blank up, surface grind it and send it and a drawing to Bailey and he could wire cut the profile for you.
He offers edm services you know. What could be easier?
Godspeed in all your endeavors.
Oh yeah, I noticed from you tag line you're a Josie Wales fan too!!LarryD
