Need webcam advice

My daughter just went away for her SECOND year at college - and we STILL haven't set up our webcam "live" communication link. Can anyone who has successfully installed a webcam to webcam setup give me some advice on which cameras and software work reasonably well? (webcams for live action only - we already have enough digicams for still pictures so a "dual-mode" is not desirable. I'd rather spend the money on getting improved live video streaming.)

You can set up a decent stream using the newest MS Instant Messenger. Once you are talking back and forth via IM, Look at the control panel on the right and it shouldn't be hard to figure out from there. Good luck
