Yeah I am looking for a Skining knife
Don't want to pay a lot for one under 50 bucks or so
Will be skining deer /monkey / boar it will have to do double duty as my every day carry . But it will not really be doing any brush work
of course ease of sharpening is a must..Any ideals ...models...
I was thinking about an ka-Bar or Buck sumthin along thoes lines
I did see a Weidmannsheil boar skinner on ebay .
Thanks

I have a Buck Vanguard I bought earlier this year so I could retire my Schrade Sharpfinger, which served me well. I expect to use it very soon for it's first skinning job:D but it is also good as an EDC. It has a 4+" drop point with good belly, ergonomics, and balance. The Zipper model has gotten rave reviews from professional hunters as the best gut hook made. Half-assed leather sheath though. I paid $40 for mine with the cocobolo like handle but it was a closeout at Wally's. Expect to pay the same for the Kraton? handle, and a little more for the Zipper.

A Kabar Warthog, ugly though it may be, is a wonderful skinner. It is short and fat with a big belly. Carbon steel takes and holds an edge quite well.

Yes I have seen thoese and the price is about right .It also looks like it will handle some other outdoors chores .So you have used these much ?
Thanks
Chris

I have cleaned quite a few deer. (1) I would stay away from guthooks. (2) There is more pulling than anything in skinning.

I have always used a 3-4" drop point blade. Get something that feels comfortable to you. You don't need a large knife to clean an animal.

I would look at an AG Russell Deer Hunter on the agrussell website. It is available with an AUS-8 alloy blade for $50.00. The design is highly optimized for hunting tasks.

On the other hand if you are skinning wild boar you need a knife with a lot of wear resistance. The hide and fur gets really full of grit. I would look at a D2 alloy blade. AG Russell makes a D2 alloy Deer Hunter for $70.00. Queen cutlery also makes some very inexpensive D2 alloy knives. Look at Bullman cutlery and something like the Canoe hunter.
