Nepal PM on crucial US visit

I am. And getting advice from an old WWII flyboy I deem better than getting advice from Clinton.

Gore as President would be scary anytime, but especially when meeting one-on-one with foreign leaders.

To me, meetings like that are possibly the most important thing the president does--it's pretty much him representing the country. And that part of the job doesn't seem to be campaign material. Most other stuff the president does, he needs the aid or at worst, indecision of the other branches of government to acomplish. Not very many acts (I mean governmental acts!) for which a president deserves sole blame. But being a jerk to a foreign leader is one of them.

He acts to me like his father didn't knock him on his rear often enough when he needed it.:D :D

You could be right, Pappy, but I'd bet my last dollar that old George has his finger in the pie right now and I figure that's a plus.

Your can't help but be right about the "old man" having his finger in the pie Uncle Bill. I agree with that it's much, much better than the options. Whose finger is in the pie or would have been with Gore if he'd been elected is scary, very scary. This would be especially true with the world situation as unstable as it is. He would have reeked havoc with this country like no one else.:barf: :barf:

I hope no one misunderstood me about the butt kicking. George W was not the one I thought needed it. Al Gores daddy missed some raising that fellar.:D

I got it wrong but I think a little a$$ kicking never hurt anybody. I remember as a kid when we got sent to the principal's office it was for a good paddling with his big wood paddle. The guy was 6' 4", 225 lbs and didn't spare us -- especially me because he was a friend of the family and took a personal interest in "bringing me up right". 30 years later I went to visit him in Marietta, GA and we both shed tears when we saw each other. Today he'd be put in jail for doing what he thought was right.

Uncle, aren't you glad that Gore isn't Pres. right now?:D

Gore has about 0 charisma (though I don't find Bush overflowing with charisma either, just in comparison to Gore) which is a fairly important lack in a figureheadish type person. But--though I've kept my mouth shut thus far ;) -- I don't see why we would suspect that Gore would have done something drastically different re: Nepal.

To be honest, I don't think Bush himself has much to do with Nepal, obviously his proposed support is the result of consultation with his advisors. If we want to thank someone, I think Colin Powell is probably the person who deserves the credit - I like Powell, he seems a very decent sort. Though you know he was planning to resign from the Bush administration prior to 9-11....

Gore had a good stance on environmental issues - I'm much less pleased with Bush - obviously he has some favours to repay to industry.... And I wonder about his Enron connexions too.

On a slightly different topic - I've found Bush's 'axis of evil' (sort of a funny term) rather perplexing. Why add Cuba? I don't think Cuba could be much of a threat at the moment even if they wanted to. I would think China would be much more worrisome - the countries in Bush's axis of evil don't have the resources of China, or even perhaps Pakistan.

in any case, that's my two bits

Powell visited Nepal and saw what was going on first hand which I'm sure popped up the red flag -- so to speak.

They have a saying in Nepal: Politics is a dirty game.

And, one can add a question: What sort of people play dirty games?

They might be poor and uneducated but they are not stupid.
