Did anyone read the article in one of the kniufe mags about the latest knife law enacted by Boston?
I hope a read it wrong. I'm afraid my SAK is now illegal to carry.

Is this the case?-What can we do about it?

I didn't read that particular article, but is it about the new 2.5" blade limit?

That really is sad.

I have been illegal in Boston for the past 40 or so years. I carry what I want and don't think about it. Who's to really know?

I read the article,

Still a little confused myself. SO a shop can sell the item in Boston, but the customer is in violation when he walks out of the store? I saw the penalty is a $300.00 fine. Can you actually be arrested for it or just fined?

I heard about that law... I work in Boston, in and around the airport... I wont carry my usual knife while working any where near air side (for obvious security reasons) but any where else out side I always carry my fixed blade and a large folder...just last week a had a State trooper ask me to see my knife that I was using to cut some rope... then it dawned on me about the new law enacted in the Boston area...
I thought i lost my knife for sure...
he handed me back my LCC and said it was a nice knife and asked me where he could get one for himself! i got lucky i guess
:D

It doesn't matter if your'e arrested or just fined, it still makes you a criminal (technically speaking).
I suppose it's legal to transport home after purchase, assuming it's still legal to sell them at all.
Notice all the disclaimers in the catalogs that knives cannot be shipped to Mass.?

Massachusetts, what can you say about a state that continues to elect teddy kennedy time after time?

I emailed the Boston PD the other day about taking a trip there and would my 3" SAK be illegal since I had heard of the new law. They replied with a section that looks like state code with no mention of a +2.5" blade length ban. There was a ban on switchblades over 1.5", but that's all I could make out.

I emailed them back misunderstanding the 1.5" as being for all knives. I'll see how they handle that, as well as my question about carrying a MagLite in my car for "protection." I asked if I could have a letter saying it was okay for me to have a SAK and a MagLite.

No, I'm not really planning a trip there, but I also asked their tourism folks...wonder what they'll say?

Safety Guy. I admire the way you get to the facts. Question the ones that are supposed to know. At least there is a chance that THEY will get informed. Keep it up!!
