New Buck Hoodlum 'on the way'... finally!

Well, I couldn't find a knife I wanted at the weekend gun show. No guns I could afford, reloading supplies I needed, or books I didn't already own, either. I promised my show moola would go for something from Buck. I did some research - found a good price from a site I had frequented - far, far better than the local dealer could do. The price was even better today - likely a temporary reduction. No matter - it's on the way - should have it by Monday.

Something about that knife... I liked it when I first learned of it. Ron Hood was an interesting guy. His untimely demise sealed the deal. I decided, like the Benchmade 171 'BladeSports' Chopper, I had to have it - wanton knife-lust. Neither of them have any practical use here - neither does the double edged MicroTeck Ultratech OTF auto my wife gave me for my birthday. The Chopper was last year's gift - the Hoodlum will be hidden away upon it's arrival for this Christmas. The Hoodlum may just be a good camping knife - and displace my 192 Vanguard. Maybe we'll go camping before the winter chill sets in... and try it!

Seriously, will I be use-tempted to get this gift early? What do you guys use your Hoodlums for in the field? Thanks!

Update: Another price reduction today - another $15 off - canned the unfilled order - re-ordered - be here Tuesday. Maybe. Maybe I really don't need it? Knife-lust! I wouldn't think twice if it was a weird 110.

It arrived via the brown delivery truck after lunch. Neat... and sharp! Decent sheath, too. That's a big box to hide - and too much knife for my Buck slotted polystyrene stands. Box states build date 9/29/2011. It states 'Ron' 'Hood' where the one pictured in the 2011 Buck catalog (pg 39) has 'Hoods' 'Woods'. The 060 model number is followed by a ( with a centered dot (The production year symbol?), then 'USA'. The nicely done, ie, not too slick, grey two-tone Micarta grip scales have a nice red liner I wasn't aware of. Nice knife - great value.

Congratulations!! I love the feel of those knives.

I believe the ones that have "Hoods Woods" on the blades are the first ones that came out. The second run has "Ron Hood" on the blade.

Hope you enjoy your Hoodlum as much as I enjoy mine.

I found it on a site better known for it's books, etc. Oddly, I bought my wife's vacuum and two lawn mowers there, as well as a bunch of Victorinox SAKs - and even some new Koss stereo headphones. Some decent prices, too. Don't know about shipping 'north of the border', but down here, they have a free shipping option that works - takes a day or two longer, but saves a few bucks - which means more Buck$.

I love the looks of the Hoodlum it IMO is one of the most practical looking large fixed blades I've seen. In a pinch (Due to the thin blade) it could sufficiently preform lighter task if needed.

I like mine a lot, probably my favorite large blade. Designed to be used and at a price point that I don't mind using it!
