I just saw the announcement and photo for the production version of the Grant Hawk D.O.G.on the CRKT website.
http://www.crkt.com/dog.html
It looks super-solid, reasonable steel, strong lock, OK price, and it's "letfy-friendly"--couldn't ask for more.
It is supposed to be shipping to dealers by mid-October (or so says their customer service).
Has anyone seen a pre-production prototype at any of the shows? If so, how does it feel "in hand?"

I handled it and the Ron Lake Signature model back in June. The DOG is basically the Bolt action lock developed by Blackie Collins. The patent ran out last year. The DOG is supposed to be shipped with 2 sets of handles. I only saw the stock set so, I can't comment on the other set. It is a rather thick knife. It has a real interesting spring that operates the lock. It looks like a shock absorber. Anyone who likes intricate things will like this knife.

Any ideas when will these be available?

It looks like a fun toy; dunno how will it'll ride and retain in a pocket, though.

Thanks for the feedback. I'm familiar with the bolt-action (I have one of the older Gerber models). Did Grant Hawk license the lock
for his original ( I remember seeing it in one of the annuals a few years ago)?--Just curious.

I called KnifeCenter on availability, and was told they aren't in yet. I'm sure to buy one. With the winter holidays coming up,
I can always make it a present for someone else if it doesn't suit.

I saw the proto at Blade. They are chunky, but very solid and well made. Action was very smooth, and I found no play in the lockup. I hope this will be a good seller as it is another well made CRKT piece.
