I have had to shut down the shop to move and just got back up and running after a month!! Talk a bout withdrawl!!

This is a prototype I just finished tonight. CPM10V blade steel, 2 1/2" blade, 6 1/4" overall. It has a full flat grind and Cocobolo scales. Heat treated by Paul Bos Rc 61. I made this to serve as a fixed blade pocket knife or a neck knife.

What do you think?

Thanks for looking.

Your welcome. Nice knife. It really looks like it has the right profile to be a great cutter. A blade of that shape would make a fine skinner.

Very nice, in a utilitarian way. I like the way the handle is contoured, and the file-work adds a nice touch. I think I personally would prefer a slightly more dropped tip, but the way it is now looks very good for most cutting tasks.

The grind transtion looks a little sharp. Does that blade have a secondary edge bevel?

No offense, but where is the tip?

Every small utility knife needs one.
Fingernail cleaning, splinter removal, caping out hides, etc.

Those types of utility jobs, and a multitude of others are hard to do without a fine enough point.

Thanks everyone for your comments. I took the pics before I set the final edge on the knife. The grind lines do look a bit sharp, but the feel is good and balanced at the front screw. This is one of my favorite blade styles so that's why I made it. I have 3 other blade styles I am working on for this model, drop point, clip point and a tanto style.

My wife has laid claim to this one already!

By the way I was listing this one for $75, sheath included. Does that sound reasonable?

Sounds more than reasonable to me. Have you done any large blades out of CPM-3V (10"+) class? If so what is the minimum edge profile you have found that can take heavy chopping /splitting in knotty wood?

-Cliff

That's a great sounding price to me Doug. Do you make this knife in 52100, 5160 or L6? Also, can I get it with different handle materials? What is your backlog like?

Edited because I noticed that I had an incorrect number for a type of steel.

I am in the middle of a large lot of Bowies and other big blades using A2 right now. I am taking orders and planning a CPM3V run sometime in January. I normally grind up half the width of a blade that is made for real heavy use. There are exceptions to that when using heavy stock 1/4" or so when I may go to a full grind to cut drag. I try to make each knife to fit the individual. I am also going to get some S30V to work with soon as well.

I am taking orders for Feb - March delivery right now. Handle material is completely up to the customer. I'll do my best to get what you like. Keep in mind ivory, some horn etc. adds to the cost. I have a good stock of hardwoods and some stabilized woods. As for blade stock this is the first one out. I would like to try some 52100. I'll grind just about anything. I was thinking about doing some in S60V and S90V and some in 154CM.
