I think I've settled on a keeper. The last small sebenza I had was a micarta 21, and I still feel like that is a great small work knife. Not saying this knife can't handle the same amount of abuse, all sebenza can take a beating. But its far too nice to get dirty and be used in the fashion I would consider using a micarta sebenza in. I was looking for a box elder sebenza, which I missed out by a few minutes, so I picked this one up instead. I was also looking for a mnandi in box elder or black dyed amboyna, but I couldn't find either and I think for extra weight and size (which isn't much) I would rather have the harder use sebenza (plus with inlays like these I'm pretty sure it's classy enough to classify as a dress knife, but you could argue all sebenza's could qualify as a dress knife). I don't really regret it, its a beautiful knife, but it cost me a small fortune. I probably shouldn't be picking up things like this while I'm in college, but hey, its a lifetime knife right?! The only real qualm I have with this knife is the whole 75% polished 25% bead blasted finish only on the lock bar...but that is how it is with all inlays except the micarta ones.

Note: Forgive me as pictures were taken on the window sill while still lying in bed, cause thats what I do on afternoons on Sundays of 4 day weekends (I stack classes on Tues/Thursday).

Anyway, without further adieu...

^ I think that is a little hair on the last picture on the inlay, as well as a smudge I just wiped off on the blade. Whoops!

It is a small classic mammoth ivory inlaid sebenza. The mammoth ivory is the whitest that New Graham had to offer, according to the previous owner who sold it to me NIB.

Very nice, love the Ivory.
You can always tape over the shiny bits and then sand the bead-blasted bits with a piece of fine wet/dry paper to "even out" the contrast... or just use it and the same will happen over time :)
Congratulations on your knife!

Beautiful ivory on that one. Nice job picking that one up. I've found that the small with creamy ivory is a hard one
to come by. I found that the large was a lot easier to find. Beautiful knife!

That there is a beautiful knife! I would love to get my hands on one someday. Stupid question though...what's the difference (besides color) between the mammoth bark ivory and this ivory?

the mammoth bark ivory is cut from the outside of the tusk which gives it the very unique color and look.

Great looking knife Austens! That creamy ivory just looks so beautifully clean.

One quick note - if you plan on taking it apart to clean regularly, I'd recommend getting one of the new, pre-tied, lanyard pins. Makes the disassembly and cleaning exercise even easier without having to worry about the cord.
