hey people, im needing a new edc, i never did get one, other than a cheapie schrade which is a pooper, no offence to schrade lovers.
im not looking for a sebbie :P

im tihnking of:
emerson commander (MINI)
emerson cqc7 tanto (MINI)
a buck/strider folder
or
if i were to try and get a mayoTNT by buck, would it outshine the above three? if so why? im not here to buy knives for names, i want a knife that will last me atleast 20 years, well not really, but a DAMN LONG TIME (ill be doing maintenance of course) oh, the knife should have a decent warantee, no real BS, and good edge holding.

i think i might take the mayo out of the list, maybe not, unless people canconvince me :P

also, feel free to suggest any other knives, or carry methods whatever whatever whatecver

Spyderco Delica, Spyderco Endura, BM 556, BM 551

(BTW: try to space out the words, your not on an IM; most people here probably barely understood what the hell you were saying)

I have an Emerson cq7. Used as and edc for a few years. One would think a knife of this type would be smoother opperating. Its not.

Hard to go wrong with a Benchmade

Well, if you are really searching for a knife that will outlast your grandkids, go for the Sebenza. I know the price difference is significant but for the materials and the warranty, you can't do any better. In my case, I messed my edge up pretty bad on a field sharpening. I sent my Seb in with 21 dollars with hopes of a new edge. Not only did I get a new razor sharp edge, but they also polished the blade and redid the shoulders of the blade. I thought that they'd sent me a brand new Sebenza! If you have to, save your cash and get one hell of a great knife.

actually just enough to last me :P

i have no doubt that i will get a sebenza when im older, right now money isnt plentiful.

i want a blade that will last me, not for my grandkids, my seb that i will get later will do that for me, just a decend edc kinda knife

if you suggest any brands, please tell me what model, i dont want an endura or anything like that, as its not too hot for my hands, i want something kinda grippy too.

Get a Buck 560 and upgrade to a BG42 blade, about a 100 bucks and you've got a GREAT EDC!!!!

Get a Benchmade 806D2 (the Axis AFCK), its going to be hard to find one in London.. (your just not going to).. I think murray at www.proedgeknives.com has one and its around 220 canadian + tax
and shipping takes around 2-3 days.

There are probably a hundred different folders that will last a long time, have decent edge holding, and have a good warranty.

Do you have a knife now? What do you use it for? What features are you looking for?

How much are you willing to spend? $200? $100? $50? A range would be helpful.

Good luck,

-- Rob

No offense, but my EDC cheapie Schrade has served me fine for well over 20 years, save yours for a grandchild.

If I wanted a solid, strong knife like those you mention I´d probably go with the Buck. I have several folders and fixed blades from them and they are great, also they have very good reputation for quality and customer service.

Even if it doesn´t seem like your thing I suggest you take a look at Bucks 110/112, perhaps a custom 110 directly from their site, go to:

http://www.buckknives.com

and hit the PCKS button.

the character is captain kaveman, i like the big flag.

My schrade is one of their staneless, i would like a lockback, or one with nice strong springs in it too.
as far as pricing goes, depends what knife, 150 dollars USD
im not getting a seb now.

Of the knives you listed, I would go with the Buck/Strider spearpoint. I like the straight design and Buck's reputation for standing behind their product is second to none. I normally would NOT consider a "liner" lock but the Strider design has a very thick, stout liner.
BTW, did anyone ever tell you how wonderful, great, sweet, and drop dead gorgeous Sebenzas are? :D

Aaron,
You will notice that I edited out a certain word from your original post that is considered beyond the boundaries of good taste established on this forum. When you signed up, you agreed to the concept that this was a family forum. Ain't a biggie, but I had complaints, and rightly so.
You also need to shrink your flag and cave man, preferably dumping at least one altogether. Having that stuff appearing so big in each post eats up bandwidth. We are an ever expanding place and we ask that people try to show some restraint when it comes to issues like symbols and signiture lines. It saves greatly in operating costs when we do not have to expand our facilities unnecessarily. Please remember that we are a privately owned forum that exsists because of the good will of our owner, Spark, and the contributions of loyal members.
As you are looking at knives, I have to second the notion of the Sebenza. You will not find a better knife. If price is an issue, I suggest you consider something from the Benchmade Axis Lock line. I have most of the series and the 710 part serrated is my favorite.

The Buck/Strider is a massive, powerful knife with a sharp blade that holds its edge through a lot of hard use. It may be too big for daily carry: consider the B/S mini, an inch shorter blade, but the same strength.

I'm big on Sebenzas myself, but I can understand an initial hesitation. The Buck/Strider is shaped very much like a Sebenza: the blade is shaped similarly, the liner lock is very heavy-duty, although not up to the Sebbie's framelock. The handle is open-backed, again the same.

They do come up for sale on For Sale: Production Knives (Individual).

if $$ is an issue, and right now for aaron it is, i'd say the BM folders are pretty much what you're looking for
afck is good
i also like the kershaw ken onion series, not too pricey

and aaron, listen to dave, your signature is getting too big
