ive had my eye on a SOG rainbow flash 2 for the last few weeks but im not to sure about this knife because it just dont feel "right" in my hands, its got a cheaper feeling than my 806d2 or even my envoy. theres a gun show comming up next week end and ive got 2 uncashed paychecks ready for something alittle more impressive.

im looking for something thats spring assited (has to have a STRONG kick) but it cant be a switch blade, the laws prohibit them. carbon steel (tanto blade if possable) and carbon fiber scales (if possable). the rainbow coating would be nice to but defiently not a major selling point to me. i figure theres not a production knife out there that fits all of those discriptions but if any body has any sudgestions that are along those lines in at last one or two catagorys post them if you can.

Sadly the highend makers don't bother with spring assist much. The Benchmade apparition could be your perfect knife if you dropped in some carbon fiber instead of jigged plastic. SOG doesn't make any assisteds in anything better than AUS-8, I believe Kershaw is the same way.

Both Kershaw and Camillus make some high-end assisted openers. Take a look at Kershaw's Bump, Boa, and Avalanche along with the Camillus Aftermath and Dominator. They all feature top-grade materials, designs, and production quality.

I'd go with one of the Kershaws if you want an assisted opener. I've got the regular Flash II, and while it's a good knife (insanely sharp), it just doesn't feel right. The handle feels like cheap plastic, but it's not. Maybe zytel is just a little too light for me.

The cutting edge of the blade sits too far back on the handle. If the blade were a little wider and thicker it would be a much nicer more usable EDC knife.

All in all though, it is a well made knife, but not one that I'd EDC. I did for a week or so and decided it just wasn't right for me. The assisted opening is cool, but I can open my non-assisted Kershaw just as fast (and with a much more satisfying click sound as well).

I think the cool factor of the assisted open wears off pretty quickly. A friend has the Kershaw Whirlwind, it doesn't open as fast as the SOG, but it's a better knife for everyday use. If I get another assisted opener, it'll be a Kershaw.

Right now the Flash II is my designated badass letter opener.

A Camillus Dominator with a tanto blade sounds like it'd fit nicely. Not carbon steel, nor CF scales, but S30V and titanium isn't anything to sneeze at.

If you've got plenty of money to spend, and some time to wait, Darrel Ralph could probably make you a custom to your specs.

ive got two paychecks from the bimmer boys setting in my pocket waiting for the gun show lol
