My wife and I have a new addition to the clan. Our son Joshua was born at home Tuesday morning after over 24 hours of labor. He is 7 lbs. 12 oz. and 20 1/2 inches long. After carefully considering our options, talking to lots of people, and researching on our own, we had both decided to hire a team of midwives and have the birth at home rather than at a hospital. My wife's ob-gyn was infuriated when she told him, and basically washed his hands of her before she could ask him if he would still be her ob-gyn in case something went wrong and we needed to go to the hospital. Other than that it was a totally positive experience for both of us. She had the birth drug free (without so much as a Tylenol), however she did use an herbal remedy prepared by the midwives that helped ease the pain from the contractions. She has earned my highest respect. I talked to him in the womb throughout her pregnancy with him, so when I first got to hold him, I started speaking to him and he stopped crying and opened his eyes for the first time, trying to focus on me. That will probably go down as my all time favorite experience of my life.
I think I'll be ordering a mini-me for him as soon as he's old enough. Might as well start him early on his Khukuri Fever.
This has been one of the greatest events of my life--it ranks right up there with the day I received my GH 20" AK.
If memory serves, I believe I posted the weight and length of that one too!
