I've picked up a couple G.E.C. knives recently. These are my first from this company. I've only taken pictures (crappy ones at that) of one of them. I'm really blown away with the F&F of these knives.

I ordered this one with a plain shield and no etching on the blade. Steel is 1095 with Bocote wood scales. Tension on this one is about a 7. When you have this knife 1/3 open it literally springs to the half-stop position. It really snaps. Everything is so well done on this knife I feel like I didn't pay enough for it. :) I have only one minor negative thing to say about this knife and that was the "out of the tube" sharpness. It wasn't very good. It wasn't Queen dull...but dull nonetheless. No big deal....I always sharpen them to my liking anyway before carrying.

on to the pics....

EDIT: I lied....these are NOT my first knives from this company. I forgot all about the Bulldog liner lock I have.

Very nice indeed

And it is slim in the pocket
The blade shape must make for a great cutter

Here is a website picture of the other #25 I grabbed. I got this one used from a forum member and a very small portion of the tip snapped off. This one is headed to Mr. Krein for work.

I have a #25 EZ Open sheepsfoot in Bocote, the blade was as dull as a butter knife. The back spring tension is pretty tough, I doubt I could open it without the EZ Open feature. I polished the etching off mine.

Pretty nice knives for the money.

One of the reasons I've avoided these is because the etching on the blade turns me off. I've never thought about just polishing off the etch. I have plenty of Flitz..... :)

Jason, polishing leaves a "ghost" image on the blade. I used Mother's Mag polish, it only took a couple of minutes.

I know a lot of vintage knives had such etching on them, but a little goes a long way :)

Jason, no intent to hijack here, but I just started a new thread on 3" GEC's - 1 blade vs 2 blade. Since you now have both, could you post a comment in my thread concerning the difference in hand of the two?

Thanks! Keith

I agree about not being a big fan of the blade etch, but if you use them till they develop a patina, or force one on the blade, the etch is not hardly noticeable at all. Of course, you could polish it off too, then it wouldn't be an issue. But the etch aside, I love their knives, I have several in different patterns, and can't recommend them enough. jason you will enjoy them I am sure, they are really building knives with great f&f like you observed.

i have a lot of the different models, the 73 in bocote is so nice it looks like a custom. my brother whom collects straight knives ;randalls, carters , & fowlers, was blown away by the fit & finish. I.M.H.O. these are the finest factory knives in the world. construction is plenty sturdy to handle any reasonable task.i'm not impressed by the factory edge but i reprofile my bevels anyway. the 1095 will cut within 90% of any factory knife out there.

Very pretty little blade! How does one go about ordering something from GEC?

These are tough knives but beautifully turned out.

Mine have all arrived very sharp, but carbon is at least easy to whip into shape. They are like a throwback to a higher quality era in my exp.

Anyone have an "in hand" shot of one of these barlows?
I'm thinking about getting an easy open version, but would like to see the scale.

Thanks a lot, joe-bob! You just cost me 50 bucks!! ;) Was unaware of the TSA site, used your link, and bought a smooth white bone #25 EDC with single Wharnie. :D

You won't be disappointed, Greg runs a very fine outfit:thumbup:
