New goodies coming

Someone posted a video at the Buck booth at Blade Show where the Buck rep said the 110 will be $250.00 and the 112 will be $230.00. I'm hoping we get some deals when they arrive in September.
Nope. I will not spend that much for them!! Ridiculous pricing continues at Buck. They used to sell Everyman knives, not anymore-unless you want the Chinese bucks.

Crazy pricing today, BM's Crooked River is pretty close to this, and those retail for $375! now.
Right. Everybody's prices have gone up. I don't have a problem spending money, but I have "a few" of knives now, and I haven't bought a new one in a long time. For me to pay these prices on a knife now, it's going to have to be something that I really want. And I'm just not seeing it. Not from Buck, and not from anybody else.

I won't say I like $250 but I don't see it as that nuts either. For a MagnaCut blade with everything else nice construction? Sticking with US made I can get Kershaw for a lot less but lose the wood in the scales. I can get Spyderco for around the same price with G10 but not the crossbar lock. Hogue also beats their price by a margin with lesser scales. But then everything else I'm seeing is at that price or higher. Sure I'd be thrilled to see them price it better in our favor but it's not like they're asking for the moon. Sorting at Knife Center for a better comparison shows a lot of Kershaw and Hogue for less but again you loose the nicer wood handle. Which maybe they could lower the cost with a 154CM blade and G10 scales instead of the aluminum and wood. Heck, even Buck's Range Elite beats a $250 price tag but once again it's a more plain jane design than the 110/112 will be.

Wondering .. if we will soon see a "rebranding" of the "standard" 110 and 112 as the "Heritage" 110 and 112, in the same manner as the "Heritage Elite Slim" models. From a marketing POV, that sort of naming allows them to keep cranking them out for customers who want / appreciates "Old School" design, while letting them move the 110 and 112 forward into more modern designs ...

The price of the new models reflects not only the cost of the design effort, but also the costs of the new production line and all the new tooling. Employee training is also a cost. The tooling for the old models has long been paid for. The cutlery industry seems able to keep old equipment operational for far longer than many other industries. It can also trap them into outdated methods.

Those wood scales look rather thin.
I'm wondering if this is a thinner knife than a standard 110?
It doesn't appear to be a slim.
Maybe between the 2 in thickness?
I wonder what the weight is?

Check post #60 it shows the profile. It looks a bit slimmer to my eye (maybe between the two as you suggested)

That's the picture that made me wonder.
👍

I would lean toward agreeing with you about it being between the standard and slim. It looks a bit fatter than the recent slim run, but my eye doesn’t see “full width buck” from that picture. Although I could be wrong, my eyes have fooled me more than once ;) 😂

I just happened to be right near to the Buck booth when saw posts from Willy and Mo (56-57). So thought a few through-shots may be useful. Figured all the youtubers would cover the rest.

Not sure what was on the mat - that is just where I could set them down next to the display. Mr. Buck (CJ) was very nice to meet and say hello. Light, flippy when disengaging the lock, and maybe the 110 is thinner than my custom shop 110 (but I do not want to misinform or misrepresent to anyone here).

I hope not. The standard 110 is the foundation on which this company is built and has tremendously influenced the entire knife industry. It should get to keep the name 110 Folding Hunter forever. It's earned it.

This would be a half decent explanation if the prices ever went DOWN once they made back design and tooling cost, but we know that isnt going to happen. They took a design they've had in production for 60 years, slimmed it (already done before multiple times) added a different locking mechanism to it, and tripled the price.

If this is $199 in a year, someone check me on this post, but i dont see that happening.

So, the standard 110 in 420HC is now priced at $90.

A standard 110 with S35VN steel is priced at $130

An otherwise standard 110 with a magna cut blade (from the CKS) is $170.

A Slim 110 with a Magnacut blade is $205

Given all that, If you had the power to do so, what would you set the price for the new Cross Bar Lock 110 at?

All of those, including the original 110, are arguably overpriced. So drop everything by 20 or 30 bucks, new 110 at $179.99.

But of course the problem lies with the mega fans. If its overpriced, but it still sells out, it will continue to be overpriced. Lets not forget that they sold a knife for $500 last month because it had purple titanium scales on it.
