New Handle Idea

I've been thinking about this for a while and was wondering what you guys thought of it. You know how after using your balisong and squeezing the handles together when it's open , it eventually smooshes the metal in the handles? The area where the stopper pin fits in that groove between the two handles. Do you think it would be possible to construct the handles so that there would be an insert there instead. I don't know, something really strong and not too expensive. This way when the metal has been crushed, you could remove and replace that insert and still have a tight locking knife. Makes sence, right? Just a thought.

I was thinking along similar lines, except maybe something resilient on the handles, like rubber inserts where the tang pin contacts the handles or something. That way, no metal would get smushed, and the inserts would be easily replaceable. I generally don't like inserts, though; just an aesthetic thing. Maybe a very small lever that was integral with the handle?

like this?

Forgive the horrible ascii art.

Wow, I was just thinking of that the other day. I was think like a square bolt that would fit on the inside of the handle (one on each side of each handle) and then tighten it useing a screw through the handle... I hope that made sense. Then one is mushes in, just rotate it my unscrewing the screw a little, and then rotate the nut, and tighten again.

My latest idea... just thought it up a couple minutes ago, insted of using a square nut, just have the tan pin make contact with the screw in the handle. I'll try to illistrate :)

That is supposed to be one handle from a side view. the screws are up and down (they should be flush with the out side of the handles, but it is easyer to illustrate this way.) The tang pin would make contact with the lower part of the screw... that way when the get mushed, just replace them!

I hope that made a little sense :)

Probably easier to cut off, drill out, and replace the stop pin than to do the same for a handle insert, IMHO.

My idea for latch designs is this,,,

MAGNETS!

Ive actually altered one of my balis and inserted a set of small magnets in place of the latch. They get in the way a TEENSY but while im manipulating but they offer a firm grip in the open and closed position. Just an idea i had.

I see the solution is not the toughness of material where the pin contacts the handles. Toughest as the pin and the handles are, will get worn out someday.
We should have a better solution than changing the handles. How about placing a small soft plate easily changeable, where the pin contacts the handles? Brass, silver(?) or other soft metal will well absorb the shock of opening the bali.

Anyways why BM bali's blade pin is THAT thin and short?
