Hi folks,

I've enjoyed this forum off & on for some time, but didn't have much of a reason to join and post until now.

There is a faint memory as a youngster regarding my mom while she was growing up in Ebensburg, PA, she told me she'd learned to throw a tomahawk.

My mom's family lived right across from the LaGanas on Tanner street.

I remember visiting with Pete a few times in the '80's when our families got together, and being fascinated with his ability to throw and stick just about anything that had a point, and even some things that didn't. He always had arms wide open for our family.

It wasn't until my mother died suddenly just this August that I thought of Pete again because I found she had carefully put away a booklet titled "The Art of Knife and Tomahawk Throwing" by Pete, with a dedication to her penned inside the front cover.

Holy smokes, thanks to Google.com I learned more about Pete than I probably would ever have, I had no idea about his contributions, especially in regards to his tomhawk design and wartime application in the '60's and '70's.

I am no stranger to such stuff, maybe it was in the Ebensburg air. 31 years with Japanese jujutsu, 25 with Iaido and cutting. My favorite knife is and always will be my ol' Cold Steel Recon Tanto, the first issue everyone wonders about. Beretta Brigadier Inox .40 is always helpful.

Hoping to hear more from anyone about Pete,

Devon

Bobby,
Thanks I have heard alot about these brochures but never have seen one.

The one on the Vietnam Tomahawk is pretty crude. It is self made from photo copies. Probably from the technology that was available at that time.
The knife throwing one is nicer. I need to try to scan these one day and turn them into a PDF.

Please contact me through my profile for a link to the PDF version of my booklet.

I'd love to see the other, Bobby.

Reading about Pete LaGana and his hawk development is what got me interested in tomahwks a few years ago. My first hawk was a copy of his Vietnam hawk.

Same here. I now have a VTAC to play with.

I have two uncles with signed 'hawks from Pete's first run back in the day. Cant wait to visit and see them for myself.

Any more info/photos/history/etc. would be welcome! I haven't yet tried to contact the LaGana family.

awesome story devon!
well, i'll just bet that it was quite a revelation to finally learn about having a neighbour with such a colorful history.

Devon Smith,

Thank you for sharing the history, pictures and booklet!!!

Email me if you want to see what I have regarding Peter LaGana (pictures, video, articles, etc.). Perhaps I have something you don't have yet. It would be much simpler to do it via email (downloading, etc.). PM me for my email address if interested.

Indeed it has, thanks. I am hearing more from uncles and cousins who are sharing thier memories. It seems Pete La Gana was active in educating anyone and everyone interested from young to old not just in Ebensburg but Cambria County. In my youth I paid attention to him too little, and now it's obviously too late.
