Here is a proto of a new Tactical/Hunter that I plan on adding to the Mid-Tech line in the Spring of 2003. I had to make one for hunting season to field test.

Specs, D-2 Rc 60, F-18 Carbon Fiber handles, which I am finding slick by the way, 9" overall with 4" sharp. Stock thickness is 5/32nds. CarbonFiber pattern Concealex sheath. Production model will most likely have G-10 handles and be of S30-V or D-2.

I always said, since I obtained the very first one (D2) at the Blade Show a couple years back, that the Pikuni style was a classic.

Further evidence.

Niiiiiiice, Rob. Boy, the "gunner" grip would sure be nice on that thing when bloody and wet. Put me down for 1 whenever you get them going!

Blues, you are right, it is a Pikuni on Steriods. Now I got to find a good name for it, hmmmm, sounds like a contest comming on! :)

Bruce, I am thinking of trying some traction grooves for the blood I will get on it inabout 10 days or so. It is just too slick the way it is. Gunner grip is out on the CF, it would raise splinters and wear out all my cutters.

Bruce and Matt D, got you covered! :)

MY PRAYERS HAVE BEEN ANSWERED!!!! Looks to be about perfect. G10 or micarta would be great. My personal preference is for 4.5 to 5 inch blade. I've been finding that there's a point where you can sand micarta to where it's smooth in the hand but still tacky when moist (say around 400 grit). Does G10 have similar properties?

Here's a vote for S30V, and pretty hard, say Rc60-61.

I've been wanting this knife to happen for a very long time. Name, you want a name? In my opinion this is a GFK, Great F@cking Knife. :D

Rob that will be the perfect companion to my Raven! Put me down for 1! As to grips I like the G10 Gunner grip or a heavy sandblast finish. Just don't shoot mine before you ship it:) I read all the drinking stories and thought you guys meant something else when you say you're gonna get together for a few "shots" :D

Rob,
We still haven't had chance to talk yet but is there any chance of a couple of those hunters instead of the combat knife - they would definitely do the job & be more than satisfactory replacement - would be more useful than the combat knife anyway since got a couple BK&T's recently. Have alway loved that design! You take er easy!

I say call it the Kutenai which was a friendly tribe to the Pikuni/Black Feet. They lived mostly in NW Montana and up towards BC. Of course Rob knows all this :D

The cool thing is you don't have to worry about a trademark search :)

Hmmmmm, I like it. My first ex wife is Kutenai!

Mike, speaking of Trademarks, I am going to try to call you tomorrow for some advice............

No problem Rob, call me anytime you got all my numbers :)

I am part Creek Indian so Indian names are always cool in my book.

Funny thing is that people actually believe that Columbus or even the Vikings discovered America. Question, How can you discover something if people were already here? Always confused the **** out of me and made me a bad boy in history class :D

One other quick suggestion... I was showing this thread to my wife because once again, she was admiring my Pikuni II. She said she'd like to have one sometime, but in a 4" version. I told her that this may be her lucky year, and showed her this thread. She thought, and I agree, it would be very practical and aethetically pleasing to have that wave shape on the spine that's present on my Pikuni II. I've found I use the thumb rest quite a bit on the Pikuni II and after talking to her, apparently it turns out that she does the same thing when she "borrows" it from me. :D Just some food for thought.

Yeah, the bad thing about educating your spouse and children about quality knives is that if you're sucessful, they develop really expensive tastes.

Mike, I agree on all counts.Especially the Columbus stuff Illget around to calling you in the next day or so man.

Thanks for the suggestion Nobody, I actually tried drawing the same swoops in for the proto and could never get it to work right. That is the great thing about proto's, they are just protos! I had to hurry this one through as hunting season starts Sunday and wanted to give the basic design a good field testing.
