I just finished this one today. It's blade is the first larger piece of damascus I got to work. I was a little more selective about the steel this time. It's mostly 5160 and 1050 and 1095 with a little softer junk added. One neat thing I found is that the temper line (if you can call it that) is darker where the harder temper is.

Anyway the specs are as follows:
LOA 9.5"
Blade 5"
Fittings are aluminum, steel and elephant ivory

The handle is cows horn, stabalized and dyed.

The blade has a full flat grind and took one helluva edge.

This was the first one I made on my new homemade 2X72 + grinder.

Comments please.

i like that peter, stong and elegant. so its damascus from the junk barrel, not old damascus barrels?

Thanks. No Laurence it's junk damascus. Everyone else has a junk box but I mess so much up, I have a barrel for it.:D

Wow I'll take that piece of junk off your hands and anyother crap you got laying around if it's like that.:D seriously that is one beautiful knife. with an awesome pattern in the damascus

Peter,Remeber Frontier style Damascus....We quit using the junk word with our Damascus,That is tro beautiful to have the word junk associated with it..
At least give it the dignaty to call it recyled steel Damascus..
You can't say you can't get some together now.
Give yourself a big pat on the back for me,Now when are you going to make another bar..

That is a beautiful knife Peter  , but wasn't it just a little while back that you was saying you never could get your damascus to stick, sounds like bull%*%* to me. :D

I really like the handle too. Great job.

Bill

Yes Bill, that was me and this is number 2 that stuck together. If this forum doesn't accomplish anything else, the members nudged me into damascus. It was close on this one though, when I threaded the tang I had a layer peel off and gall the threads. I shortened the tang an inch and it was sound metal there.

And thank you !!:)

Very nice, I espealy like the use of horn as handle material, it's my favorite.

Better watch it, if your not carefull you won't be able to stop! Allso lock up your good tools, other wise you will get to wondering what if?:D

Good job!

Thanks everyone! Greg if it has personality it developed it on it's own. That's just the way it happened to turn out. I was just trying to get it to weld properly.
