I think, like everything else I have seen you make, that you need to go with something that was not originally Neil Blackwood's idea. That is a Henchman blade, plain and simple. The handle is different, but you need some ideas of your own when you grind stuff.

Festive handle color fitting for the holiday season! Put some jingle bells on the sheath! Just joshing ya. Nice clean work. Definately see the Blackwood influence, but I don't think your overtly copying him.

Beautiful Knife! Looks like top notch craftmanship.

The whole "copying" thing has already been hashed out a hundred times. Drop it already.

And what a fine son you are. Your dad's a lucky man.

How I wish my son too has skills like that!

I grind like Neil

So, you follow the way of one of the best grinders out there. Big deal.

Excellent knife ! Look so sharp it's gonna skin me just by looking at it.

It's not a matter of grind, it's a matter of the entire design. you can obviously build a solid and well-finished knife. But it is troubling that so many of your designs are just slight variations of another person's designs, talents, inspiration. Maybe give the Blackwood theme a rest for a while and, if you can't yet come up with original designs, at least copy some other & different makers.

Change the grind and it would be differant makers look, change the grip and it would be another makers look. Is there really anything new under the sun?

Mark

I agree. I can count a number of times that I've sat down and drawn out a knife just to see a silimar design, or design inspirations in other people's work. Most of the time, we make what we like. There's no point in making a knife that doesn't please/inspire the maker. As long as you're not trying to pass it off as someone elses work, claiming that all of the design is original, or trying to horn in on someone elses market, I don't see the problem.

House, That is one cool looking blade! Let me know when you recieved my mail.

OKAY GUYS,
House was inspired by Blackwood, so Bo Randall was inspired by Scagel, and a 1000 others inspired by Bob Loveless. Everbody starts some where to get started.

House will develop into his own soon , just like Randall. We have to encourage new makers to continue making knives and give them ideas to do this job.

People are getting out of hand with all this who knife looks like who. Make knives, buy knives and enjoy knives. That is what we are missing here on these online forums.

I design all my knives and have been doing so for 10yrs. I have an art backround that make it easy. When I start grinding after my current career, I hope I can get like Loveless, Goddard, Pease and Mosier.

I think the fun and love is slowly going out! Lets get it before we lose it .

my 2 cents.

Mr House...nice knife & grinds...as far as it being a copy, Neil is a friend of mine..and although I am not as familier with all his blade names and designs I feel that this knife definatly has his lines and look. If it was done on purpose then shame on you. If it was done with the right heart, one that is to pay respect to a fine man and his talents we all recognize then "Bravo" to you Mr House for your emulation of what is clearly the other mans work.

I'm assuming people are thinking of the Henchman:

Definitely some similarities there. It's not an exact copy but it's pretty similar. My understanding is Neil is okay with Nathan and what he does. My advice would be to try some very non-blackwood-esque knives next though. At the least, you might get less "bad" attention from some people (not that it necessarily matters to you). Just my humble opinion...

Edited to add that apparently I was wrong about Neil being "OK" with Nathan's work. Sorry for mis-speaking on the subject...
