i like it, but it seems like the blade isn't as smooth as my griptillian. particularly, i can't pull the axis bar back and flick it closed like i do open.

anyone else have this issue, or does mine just need oiling, haha.

also got the voyagerX2. dammit, put a slight cut into my hand because i'm a retard and didn't realize the weight of the blade. released the lock, blade drops down and swings into my finger, heh.

Maybe I just haven't gotten the right one, but I am definitely not part of the Benchmade army. I am toying with getting the Benchmade assisted opener that comes with the removable torsion bar. I would like to know how the X2 works, I am getting rid of my large Voyager clip point to help pay for a new X2!

X2 is nice. opens really smoothly, flick of the wrist and the blade is out (probably due to it's weight). it locks into place with a nice satisfying click.

the only issue i have with the X2 is that because it's a lockback, i can't close it with 1 hand like i can my Maxx.

Yeah, you can close any knife one handed, just gotta be careful. Some of my lockbacks I close on my torso, blade away from my body of course, others I press the lock bar and let the knife fall into place and use my finger to close it the rest of the way, but as you found out, ya gotta be careful.

I got my 710HS on 1-1-05. It was just a little bit tight out of the box. I adjusted the pivot with a #10 torx and it was fine. A little shot of Miltec made it even better. Now it opens and closes with a very slight flick of the wrist while holding the Axis lock open.

The action on the 710 does feel different than that of the Grip, even with the adjustment and lube -- the initial spring tension on my 710 somewhat greater on my 710. Could be the spring strength or tang geometry I suppose. As someone else once said here, the different Axis lock models have different "personalities."

Loosen the pivot screw slightly.....That fixes it of times. A drop or two of millitec slicks thing too.

it was the pivot screw. gracias.

how do you guys apply militec? i was always under the impression you'd have to take the knife apart and apply it on the joints.

I use my militec just like plain old oil for knives, and for guns I follow their directions about firing the gun after.

The balisong collector has a tutorial here: http://balisongcollector.com/militec1.html

I heat my AFCK up over a zippo, then apply militec and work it in, then heat it again. I think the BT coating slows it down a bit though, I really have to fwing it out, it won't just drop open. I'd rather not loosen it to prevent blade play.

As for your 710, Benchmades usually come a little tight out of the box. Adjust it to your liking, apply a drop of militec to each washer, and you're on your way.

Your 710 will do fine once it's broken in.

My X2 was OK one-handed. My Vaquero Grande, which uses the same handle, was so stiff I needed two hands to release that lock until it finally wore in. Now it closes one-handed, but the same as your X2, it will bite if I let it swing closed to fast.

Like everyone else said, adjust the pivot, clean it out, lube it with some Militec and you'll be fine. My 710 is the smoothest knife I own. I can release the Axis lock and the blade will open by gravity, no flicking needed. It locks into place with no blade play.

easy! just like most Spydercos (actually, most lockbacks), you simply move your index finger under the choil of the blade (the X2 has plenty of unsharpened choil to do this), and use your thumb to depress the lock. the blade will fall and come to rest against your finger (without cutting it of course). then move your index finger out of the way, and use it to close the blade all the way. if your X2 is brand-new, you may have trouble getting the blade to fall on its own; if so, just play with the knife for a while... should loosen up in a day or two.
