New Knockout - little big knife?

I just got my knockout (aluminum) - and I am really impressed
First off - I tend to like smaller/thinner/narrower knives - skyline, mini-grip

The knockout dwarfs these two - both length and height. It fills my hands really well - even better than my blur - although they are both the same length (open). It is the same size (length, height) as my Gayle Bradley, but this thing is a little more than 1/2 the weight. The smooth/slick (not slippery) scales and thinness/lightness of the overall package makes it disappear in my pocket. That, and the deep carry clip. As another point of reference- the screws seem wide/far enough away from the main body of the clip that I have not had problems with the screws catching on my pockets and preventing full seating of the knife.

And best of all - I think it has the most belly of any of my knives. For once, I am happy with the obesity trend in the US... I will call it my anti-leek.

Good fit/finish, smooth, centered, good grind, beautiful sub-frame lock, functional thumb studs, easy flipper. I hesitated getting this knife - and am glad I did not listen to that little voice:D

On the down side - the sub-frame lock seems to show scuffs differently from the anodized aluminum. This may cause it to stand out sooner in a bad way. If so, I may go the polish route like the prototypes...
Also - wondering how hard it would be to remove the thumb studs.

and yeah - I know - kinda sad that I consider a 3.25 inch blade a "big" knife
Now I just have to wait on my echelon and cryo.

The sub-frame lock appears to be coated then stonewashed. So those aren't scuffs just the stonewashing.

do you have pics? How do you know if you get a G10 model or an Aluminum model?

The G10 model was discontinued. It's a very rare and hard bird to find. If you order one right now, you'll receive the aluminum model. Which is the more structurally sound of the two.

I was looking at the Knockout or Piston, but it appears both rely on the torsion bars for blade retention. Why do these flipper models even need speedsafe? Deal breaker for me....

i had a problem with the thumb stud on mine, too. i ended up using a dremel to cut it off on the side that was dragging on the inside of my pants pocket. i need to do a little bit of polishing on it still, but the knife is MUCH more functional now.

the leek is also my favorite knife, and preference. i modded the clip on my knockout to make it more like that on my leek. thread here:

I was under the impression that they both had detents so you could deassist them.

All Kershaws I have with Speedsafe have detent balls, but none have detent holes, meaning you still rely on pivot friction to keep them closed if de-assisted.

Kreole is correct. There is no detent hole in the in the KO.
