Made some new skinners recently. I like to call them "ringtail skinners". The 3" blades are flat ground, edge quenched 1095 with elk tip handles. Just curious to get some "maker" opinions. Alot more folks have been asking me for smaller hunting knives as opposed to big hackers lately. These are light, sit close and work real hard.

They look great. Most hunters I know prefer short blades - 2½ to 3½ inches, but we don't have much big game hunting where I live.

Those are beautiful! Everything rings true, I like the sheaths too. Do you use any NS or 416 for your bolsters? You just made my day, what a way to start the week. Thanks,

Dave

Thanks guys. I was pretty happy with the design and feel on these. Glad you like 'um. Dave, the top ringtail is nickle-silver, the bottom brass. I've also done some with bronze and cable damascus guards/caps.

Those knives look like they have about the same angle as the Bowie #1

Was that what inspired you ? Or just a good design for a using knife?

I don't know what a bowie #1 looks like, though I'd love to see pix of one. The blade shape was inspired by a VFW member at the club I work at part time. I do alot of sharpening for the members and one fella brought in this neet looking knife that he said he use to skin 'coon with when he was a kid(hench the name, ringtail skinner). I liked the blade shape, but thought his was too thick(mine are 1/8" thick)and needed a hair more blade curve. The original was also a full tang knife. So, I played around with it. I personally like narrow tangs and stag or elk horn so, this is what I came up with. I'm still making handle variations, of course, and I'll post the ones I like best.

Very Nice...They look like they would be at home on any hunters belt.
very clean,great job.

well the Bowie # 1 doen't look like your fine hunters at all,It's just the angle. Seems to be a fine thing for working knifes and fighters.
