This is the second time (with the new software) that my "new posts" search got eaten, leaving me with the mesage:
Sorry - no matches. Please try some different terms.

And I thought the 1 week search parameter timeout built into the old software was annoying!

Is there any way to query the search engine to reproduce the effect of the "new posts" function

If you take more than 15 minutes to go through the search list, it will reset because your cookies will time out.

Try this...

When you log on to BF, open the 'New Posts' in a new window, (by right clicking) then read the threads in thier own window ..when you reach the last page, stop.

Go to the main window and open 'New Posts' in new window again...it should open up with the threads that were posted between the time you started reading the posts and when you finished.....

I wouldn't close the first set of posts untill you see if this works for you...but thats how I do it...

I hope it helps...

Nope, it's always been that setting. If I set it longer, you wind up never getting through the lists... and makes it harder for the server. People also start complaining about how they never see "new posts".

Huh?
Well something else in the background has gotten changed, as with the old software I could set aside a new thread search (if I had been away from the forums for awhile, and did not want to do a marathon session) for up to a week, at which point the search ID would be discarded.

I used to be able to do the same thing....added to my favorites folder....

It's over my head.....

This new development defenstrates (throws out the window) the originally intended usefullness of the "New Posts" search function

Nah, it just puts the "New Posts" into reality. What you were doing was saving search results, which were putting a severe load onto the server. Now it's just showing your actuall "New Posts" from when the last time you visited was.
