Hello guys: I am new to this game of knife throwing. I am currently playing with a set of Cold Steel True Flight throwers. Now I know that Bobby Branton is the king of this sport and that his throwing knives are the Cadillac of what's on the market in throwing knives. I've had the esteemed pleasure of meeting the guy twice at the ATlanta BLADE Show and he is a gentleman and a knife scholar to say the least.

But I got these CS Throwers just to hopefully learn the basics. ARe there any good books, videos and/or DVDs dealing with this hobby?

Also I live here in the Kansas City Missouri area and I was wondering if there were any serious throwers here in the KC area?

Look forward to your replies. thanks in advance guys, happy Turkey day :)

Okay, for once a little completely shameless self promotion:

check out www.combatknifethrowing.com

It is one of the sites run by Bobby. I'll second what you say about him being the king of knife throwing. If anybody is the center of knife throwing in North America, he is. This forum is lucky to have him and I'm lucky to have met him...you have to brag on him sometimes, because he'll never do it himself...

Look up the "Great Throwzini" newsletter on Google. I don't have the URL handy or I'd post it for you. The site guru lists various videos and equipment sources. I get the newsletter monthly and it's free.

I don't think the make or even style of your throwers matters much. What's important is to learn to throw ANY piece of pointed metal. For example, the cheapie SKS bayonets make excellent throwers. So do icepicks, sharpened screwdrivers, old kitchen knives, etc. Once you can judge your distance and know, more or less instinctively, whether you need a blade or handle grip, choked grip or tip, etc., you're there. There are even methods of throwing with a delayed index finger "slide off" that constrain the rotation so you can throw ten or twelve feet with zero flip.

I throw to have fun and for a bit of exercise. It's great.
